Man jumps from Mass. Ave. bridge, but lives

A 45-year-old Harvard man jumped off the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge shortly before noon. According to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office:

Troopers were able to bring the man from the water into a State Police vessel and transport him to a nearby dock, from where he was taken to Boston Medical Center. Based on the facts and circumstances available thus far, the incident does not appear to be the result of criminal conduct and the man is expected to survive.

Sounds like a teen girl trying to get attention.

... but not serious.

...how could jumping off the bridge NOT be criminal?

They mean it wasn't the result of an assault or being pushed or the like.

I just figured "jumped" kinda ruled out out that possibility :-)

...did they ever make an arrest in the South Boston St. Paddy's Day racist firebombing? Haven't seen much about that.

And this has what to do with a man's attempted suicide?

Zachary Marr was also from Harvard, also went into the Charles, with more tragic results, in February.

How long does it take the State Police vessel to get to the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge?

Those skiffs are on the ready under the Zakim, and they can MOVE when they need to.

And it's what, 1-2 mile's, so within a couple minutes if the police boat is already in or near the river, or the officers are on quick stand-by near the Zakim.

The MIT Boathouse for crew boats is to the west of the bridge, the Sailing Pavilion is just to the east (and just west of the Longfellow). While the SP has boats and jet skis, the motorized launches from either MIT facility can also get there extremely quickly and start a rescue (as they are trained to do).

Further upstream, the BU crew and sailing facilities also have motorized boats near the BU bridge.
