As of Monday morning both the MBTA app and MBTA.com are showing the old schedules for the Providence line.

So this means the trains are going to run on time, right?

The 604 Needham train (7:32 AM) was standing room only as the 606 (8:10) no longer gets you in town by 9:00. Also only 2 ticket takers, so 2 doors were opened delaying loading and no tickets were checked where I was sitting.

The timetable shows that 606 gets to Back Bay and South Station at 8:50 and 8:56, respectively, both before 9. It previously got you in eight minutes earlier. If your work schedule is time-critical enough that you must be in exactly at 9, the earlier schedule would still be cutting it close, especially if you had to transfer to the Red, Green or Orange lines, no?

If I worked inside South Station, getting there at 8:56 would be OK. I have about a 10 minute walk from the station so while I'm not punching a clock it is generally better to be at work prior to 9:00, my scheduled start time. Sure I can take the earlier train, but I think that creates issues for some people in terms of childcare and morning routines. Its not a dealbreaker, just another inconvenience as they continue to raise fares.

I was on the train and it didn't even get in until after 9:00 a.m.

Yes, the change to the Needham Line schedule is a problem. I submitted comments during the comment period. I later submitted a couple emails commenting that the new schedule is going to make the earlier trains even more crowded.

The new timing for Train 606 changes the train's arrival time at South Station from 8:47 A.M. to 8:56 A.M. This change means that passengers on Train 606 will no longer be able to arrive at jobs located in the South Station/Financial District area by a normal 9 A.M. start-time. Therefore, Train 606 will lose its primary function for a majority of passengers.

Because workers will no longer be able to get to work on time by taking Train 606, workers will need to take the earlier 604 train, which is already over-crowded beyond capacity. When I board Train 604 at Roslindale, there are never seats available, and the train is filled with passengers standing in the aisles. Similarly, Train 606 is already over-crowded.

The new schedule will force a significant number of passengers from Train 606 to take Train 604 instead. Taking train 604 creates additional problems for workers who will now have longer work days because they will be arriving too early for 9 A.M. job start times.

As a contrast, the current 608 train is often under-utilized because of its later arrival at South Station. Train 608 has few passengers because any workers taking that train would not be able to arrive at South Station/Financial District jobs by 9 A.M.

The new schedule is not the same as the schedule that was proposed and available for public comment. In the proposed schedule, MBTA stated that Needham line train 606 would leave a few minutes later but would still arrive at South Station at the same time as it does under the current schedule (8:47 A.M.). I submitted comments on that proposed schedule, noting that I was concerned by MBTA's calculations that a train could leave later yet arrive at the same time. In my comments, I noted that leaving later was fine, as long as the train could actually arrive at South Station at the same time.

Now the official new schedule acknowledges that train 606 will in fact arrive later at 8:56 A.M.. Again, this is not the same as the proposed schedule that was available for public comment.

Proposed schedule change:

And see the comparison here: http://www.mbta.com/uploadedfiles/About_the_T/Board_Meetings/1.8%20Needh...

Note that MBTA's proposed schedules that were available for public comment indicated that there would be no change to the arrival time of train 606, which was shown as arriving at South Station at 8:47 A.M. under both scenarios.

The NH 604 trains was running behind schedule - effing useless. now instead of being 5 minutes last work - i'll be 10 minutes late.

604 was standing room at W.Rox

(yea - and I can't get on the 602 due to daycare drop off)

This wouldn't be a problem if each line ran every 10 minutes at rush hour like it should, instead of every 40 minutes.

I really didn't need that. Really.

So why did you sign up for the TXT alerts if you don't want to get them? Some people take the early train and appreciated the reminder. (Or would have complained if they waited until 8am to send it out.)

Besides waking people up, any time in the morning would be too late. For a schedule change planned months in advance, they should have sent the reminder the day before, or earlier.

I received "New Schedules Reminder" alerts several times over the past two weeks. Not to mention it has been prominently featured on the message boards at stations as well.

I take the train from Hyde Park. there used to be a Franklin train that picked us up at 6:30, and was always right on train. The Stoughton train they replaced it with is supposed to pick us up at 6:40 at HP - it was 20 minutes late. I'm going to try the Providence train that picks up at 6:20 tomorrow - hopefully it will work out a little better.... Tonight's commute home is going to be interesting, as they have eliminated most stops for Hyde Park. I think they are trying to force us to take the Fairmount trains.

The 604 was too late this morning (more than 10 min) to make the connection to the red line to Cambridge at South Station and arrive before 9 am. Not only does it leave later, it also will get more crowded because people from the 606 train who need to get to the financial district will now move to the 604 train. This is ridiculous.

all the AM trains would be a lot quicker if the didn't stop at Forest Hills, Ruggles and Back Bay. Why do they make three stops along the Orange line. Makes no sense. No on gets on or off at Forest Hills, yet ever train stops their and then twice more along at Orange Line stops> Just dumb
