Boston
Musical Intelligencer is a good source of info on the local classical music scene (http://www.classical-scene.com/ ).
Jazz Boston (http://jazzboston.org/ ) is a local non-profit that supports local jazz and has lots of good information and listings.
Great job by the Globe
...in making itself more irrelevant.

For years, every Thursday, the Globe had a magazine pullout section that listed all things arts and lectures open to the public. It listed by topics: movies (with capsule descriptions), concerts, plays and area lectures. It was comprehensive and an example of what (past tense) made the Globe a great paper.
Despite some flaws such as carrying Mike BarnicIe, Imiss the old Globe.

in the Thursday arts section. It's no substitute for the old Globe Calendar (or even the later Thursday Sidekick), let alone the Phoenix, but at least it's something. (But will it remain?)

You could have pointed to, I don't know, Lodon Book Review - but our local "artists" don't make it that far, being as artists as the street cleaners. Nevertheless, I am sure we can read more about the former from the city registry of free houses for artsy cronies. Coming soon to our wallets.
