While searching for dirt bikers who may have smashed cop's car window, officers find armed-robbery victim

Around 10:45 p.m., BPD officers responded to Columbia Road and Blue Hill Avenue on a report that some guys on dirt bikes had just smashed a window of a sergeant's personal car.

As officers roamed the area looking for five guys on dirt bikes - several were spotted but not pursued for safety reasons - officers found somebody who'd just been robbed at gunpoint at Dudley and Cottage streets, shortly after 11 p.m. The suspect made off with, among other things, the victim's sneakers.

So they go looking for the dirt bikers, but, can't chase them if they find them. So, what's the point? Hope you recognize one and deal with them well after their rampage is over?

I'm so sick of the dirt bikers and quad riders coming in in gangs down Blue Hill Ave and Columbia road. If they come up to a red light, they just hop over the median and go against traffic, drive up onto the sidewalk scaring the shiz out of pedestrians, filter between cars. I have on my dash cam two separate incidents where a kid on a dirt bike was doing a wheelie and smashed into a stopped car in front of him. He fell over, then just took off, obviously a hit and run. At night they ride around the same way with 0 lights on their bikes going through red lights. I don't understand how there aren't more accidents. I know I sound like an old man but seriously its out of control.y

I'd be OK with pedestrians pushing them off their dirt bikes when they speed down the sidewalks. Seems like self defense to me.

I agree with you.

Don't want to end up on uhub with a "pedestrian shot by teen on dirt bike" headline.

Seems like a good way to get stomped or shot by a gaggle of "aspiring rappers."

Rather then not chasing them and hopping that they will pull over to chat, give the cops high powered cameras. A good old fashion steak out to get some clear pictures to hold against them at a later date.

Will they be grilling while they wait to intercept the dirt bikes?

Funny how this has been going on for years now and BPD suddenly cares because the latest victim of dirt-bag dirt-bike vandalism is a cop.

But, really, you haven't read any of the recent articles (some right here on UHub) about BPD cracking down on dirt bikes?

Big difference here is the pursuit. BPD only goes after bikers parked someplace and the bikers know they are untouchable on the road.

And it was no different than other pursuits, except, yes, there were probably more officers this time because the initial report was something like "officer's car shot." But as with every other similar pursuit I've ever heard, the commanding officer quickly called it off.

Not a fan of the dirtbikers, but I'll take the broken window report with a grain of salt - last time we had an off duty cop report a smashed window on his personal car, it turned out to be a smudge.
