Better rush down to the Hyde Park Shaw's before all the Halloween candy is gone

Halloween candy in Hyde Park

Workers at the Hyde Park Shaw's cleared several shelves today so they could unload these goodies.

Only 103 shopping days left until Halloween.

I already started listing my Ebay Halloween stock and I am doing better than last year at this time, by gut feeling anyway. Last year was downright depressing. These earlybird candy hawkers, though... harumph!

I was JUST saying to someone yesterday how you'll soon see Halloween and Christmas Stuff in stores soon.

And just saw a back to school commercial on TV yesterday.

Ugh.. means summer is almost over.

No it doesn't mean summer is almost over. It's July 20. Technically there are two months of summer left, or, if you want to go by when people go back to school, at least a month and a half left. It means the merchants and corporations want you to think "summer is almost over" so you will spend money. Obviously they are succeeding.

Your comment was unnecessary.

Geez.

all of our comments (even this one) are technically unnecessary, but I guess that would defeat the purpose of a comment board being here.

With that said, I see no harm in what the above poster stated...there was nothing malicious about the tone or statements made.

got an email from a store today advertising a Preferred Customer Sneak Peak of their Christmas decorations. And yes I'm a sucker who looked at all of it.

I found back to school stuff out in stores starting Fourth of July weekend, and a bag of Brach's Autumn Mix out on July 6.

I'll allow the Back To School stuff given that retailers are running on a national calendar, and some parts of the country go back in mid-August. I can take solace that people in warm states are trying to find lightweight spring clothes in January and all the stores have are wool sweaters and fleece jackets.

Tons of Halloween stuff just dropped in Michaels/AC Moore/etc. As somebody planning a fall wedding it's been pretty great for picking up cheap decorations :)

In some parts of the country, school starts as early as August 10. School seems to start in August in most places. Is the northeast the only area where school starts after Labor Day?

I just got an e-mail for "we have the new back-to-school clothes preview", which is appropriate. August is back to school. Shaw's shelves should be filling up with notebooks, pencils, and backpacks. Target's certainly are.

I have never purchased Halloween candy before October 1 (and sometimes not until 10/31). So I have to wonder what bright bulb of a store manager thinks that it's a good idea to put Halloween candy out in July...

Possibly a store manager who suspects you're going to eat all the Halloween candy you buy between now and October, yourself, and then buy more candy for Halloween.

Probably just last year's left overs coming out of storage in time for this year's early birds.
