DA: Men kicked out of Theater District hotel after one ODed on meth left more meth behind in a drawer

Two men who checked into the W Hotel Thursday night left bags full of crystal meth behind after one was transported to a nearby hospital for a suspected overdose and then after he returned both were kicked out, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Both Jeffrey Bertrand, 30, of Everett, the alleged overdoser, and Dylan Donahue, 23, of Granby, were arraigned yesterday in Boston Municipal Court on charges of trafficking in more than 100 grams of methamphetamine. Both had bail set at $2,000 - the DA had asked for $150,000 in bail. Donahue was also charged with possession of a Class B drug.

According to prosecutors, Betrand OD'ed around 4:30 a.m. on Friday. The hotel then asked Donahue to pack up their stuff and leave.

Donahue gathered their belongings and left the premises. However, staff at the hotel later discovered a bag inside a desk in the room that held a container of crystal meth. Police responded to the hotel and approached Bertrand and Donahue, who had returned to the location.

After speaking with the men, officers entered the room and observed the container found by hotel staff. Its contents were weighed and determined to be 142 grams of suspected crystal meth. Also inside the hotel room were a small briefcase-style safe, a silver bowl with crystal meth residue, multiple Ziplock baggies, hypodermic needles, and other indicia of drug distribution and use.

Innocent, etc.

But he can GTFO with $150K bail for possession of meth. Yeah, I want to pay for these (expletives) to sit in jail because you priced their freedom for putting drugs into their own bodies at six figures.

Would you rather pay the healthcare costs of countless meth zombies instead?

Make it like Baby Safe Haven: You can, civilian or cop, legally shoot (not fatally) somebody on drugs with a paintball gun, then bring them to a police station. If they're immediately tested and found to be on illegal substances, then you don't face punishment for shooting them and dropping them off into police custody.

If they aren't on drugs, you go to jail for a year for shooting a person with a paintball in public. If you kill them with your shot, you go to jail for life. Watch how quickly people stop doing drugs if they know they're going to get shot at legally by the handful of citizens who would risk a year in jail to shoot somebody who they are absolutely convinced is doing drugs and causing trouble in their neighborhood.

Would you take drugs that were offered to you ever again, knowing that the person who gave you the drugs could grab a paintball gun, shoot you, and drop you off at a police station without recourse from police or courts? This will keep a bunch of junkies from using, and this will put a few other dangerous trigger-happy Rambos into jail for a year and off our streets.

Nobody dies without somebody getting punished for it, and the long arm of the law punishes criminal acts (doing drugs) while not punishing a shooting act that would be legal if both parties were engaged in it voluntarily. Incentives? Knowing that I legally shot at and got arrested a guy who's going to steal from me or my neighbors is satisfaction enough for me.

Time for society to (expletive) or get off the pot with the War on Drugs. It's a half-assed war. Either attack all of the enemy combatants, or withdraw the troops. We have cameras and substance testing. We have the technology to film cops and SWAT teams pursuing a suspected dealer, apprehending him, confiscating the suspected drugs from him, testing said drugs to make sure they're drugs, and getting a possible affirmative result. How long does that take, and can we capture that in one single continuous camera shot?

I really don't get that part.

And did you mean one shot? Or multiple shots? Would you get a year for each shot if the guy isn't on drugs?

You need to seek help for your mental health situation

I'm not going to shoot people with paintball guns. I don't even own a gun, let alone many guns, that would necessitate an entire rack. What am I supposed to do with a gun rack?

" how about open season on junkies"
That is the most idiotic response I have ever read. The level of stupidity in what you wrote is beyond a comment from me. Yea lets get rid of junkies and replace "junkie" problem
With more gun violence. Brilliant idea!! Yea because with a bunch of idiots who have no idea what drug addiction really looks like Going around shooting people I'm sure no innocent people will get hurt. For all the "obvious substance abusers" you see on the street there are 10times as many functioning addicts that are your neighbors, relatives, and grandparents.
You should apply to write policy for Trump. Your a Tool.

That much meth is not just for personal consumption.

So you think it's okay for the hotel cleaning lady to get stuck with a druggie's dirty needle because his rich ass thinks he can shoot up wherever he pleases?

If that happens, there should be severe penalties for the user. I thought we were talking about doing meth here.

It's hard to OD on meth intravenously. The other kid had suboxone strips in his pocket more than likely he OD on heroin. Probably got narcan by the EMT, and was discharged soon after. Obviously the friend was not the sharpest tool in the shed for not taking everything when they left the first time. And there both idiots for going back to room after the hospital. Who does that, leave in ambulance. Get kicked out of room, then go back to get all your illegal drugs at the W hotel. It's not the econo lodge, they probably searched the room as soon as they left. Knowing exactly
What they would find. Hotel people are not stupid. People don't often check into hotels who live a town over. They know exactly what your doing drugs
Or prostitution. He should have left the hospital and went into treatment and called a good lawyer.
