Turtle in Jamaica Pond

Jamaica Pond habitues know about the two old tree branches up near Pinebank where the turtles hang out. Today, one of the turtles seemed to just want to be left alone to soak up some more sun.

That's an eastern painted turtle, probably our most common fresh water turtle. It shares Jamaica Pond with Trachemys scripts elegans, the red eared slider, which is larger and not native. The sliders are probably descendants of escaped pets.
