The snow-covered streets of yesteryear were kind of gross after awhile

Trolley on old Boston street

The folks at the Boston City Archives wonder if you can place this scene. See it larger.

That was winter 2014, greenbush line. You can clearly see this is one of the newer cars on the best commuter rail system in the country.

The good people of Hingham would never allow the snow in their community to get THAT dirty.

Nice! And fairly accurate I'd say.

I'll go with L street. The car looks the same from the 1916 tragedy.

Dorchester Avenue, Jan. 17, 1922.

Definitely has to be somewhere in Southie. There (Division Five) had the largest amount of single-track operation. It seemed every other street in the chunk bounded by Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester Street and Broadway had trackage and service from the 1880s into the late teens.

My best guess: B Street?

Thanks for playing folks! This photo was taken at 1642 West 5th Street in South Boston in the winter of 1923/1924. Its between A and B Streets, at the bridge over an access road.

Looks like we made a mistake on the street number. Sorry folks! 1642 is more likely the street car number than the street number. Our sources tell us that the street number is likely to be in the 40s.

Looks like the building at left is still there.
