Chinese buffet in the works for Roslindale

Flaming Grill and Buffet under construction in Roslindale

Work is well underway to turn a long vacant space in the Stop & Shop mall on American Legion Highway into what would be Roslindale's second sit-down Chinese restaurant.

Zhen Hua Yan is spending an estimated $1.5 million to turn space at 950 American Legion Highway, near the Hyde Park line, into the Flaming Grill and Buffet, according to records on file with ISD. The restaurant has yet to go before the Boston Licensing Board for a food-serving license.

Need more Chinese buffets in Boston for those days you're really, really hungry, and in a rush.

There are lots of them scattered around. I've seen them in Lowell, Peabody, Nashua, and other places I can't recall. I don't think they're all the same chain, but they all have the same furnishings and mostly the same food.

Its not bad. Its just...lame.

It reminds me of a bar in a hotel. They always manage to find the worlds least exciting name. Like Characters lounge.

I can see a certain demographic adopting the place and making it the new Jacques. (Not that there's anything wrong with that).

It might take on a humorous meaning.

But its Roslindale.

You beat me to it :-)

I still laugh at the old Pru food court burger place called "Flamers"

Do they have a separate license and licensing process for a drag show? Show Tunes karaoke?

In fact, they have a separate board altogether, the Mayor's Office of Consumer Affairs and Licensing. Where it gets fun these days is that it's a one-person board and that one person is also the chairwoman of the Boston Licensing Board. But with a different staff, in its own office on the other side of City Hall.

Yes, they need a license to perform and to do karaoke which both fall under entertainment licensing as you mention.

But there is no permission needed to perform in drag (if you have a license) as was asked.

Or maybe I am just reading the question wrong?

It's the live entertainment.

Back in the day. Staff would have to have been all girls. Teen boys wouldn't take the abuse to work at a place with that name for any amount of money.

Kids today would care a lot less and/or embrace name.
Of course Pru location looked like it was all staffed by hard working immigrants.

In Revere. Has a different owner, don't know if there's a connection between the two, though.

It's a chain. They have locations in NY, NJ and MD as well.

Adam - Map is off.

Where the Google pin is, is more like the upper 600-700 block.

The pin has to be up in the no-man's land further outbound.

It needs to be between Cummins and Clare. If you zoom in you can see where S&S and Dollar Tree is. Google fails sometimes on address mapping.

Fixed it by using the Walgreens address instead.

into what would be Roslindale's first sit-down Chinese restaurant.

Does 7-star with (kinda) new dining room not count?

Unlike my mind, I guess. Fixed, thanks.

We need to leave the buffet in the 80s/90s.
