Artists have no need of maps on the Red Line

Map replaced by art on the Red Line

Stefanie reports that around 8 a.m., about five people got on her Red Line car, covered all but one of the car's maps with cardboard, then posted paintings, along with sheets giving each work's name and artist.

Note to all rogue artists: Covering over a T map is not cool. That being said, this stuff is pretty bleak.

"Which stop is Alewife?"

"I think it's the blue sail boat looking thing near the yellow squiggle..."

Those panels usually contain advertisements. Only when they're vacant is the map visible.

So I don't mind if there's art there for a while.

However, the T does make it a point to not fill them all at the same time, so that each car still has at least 2 (IIRC) maps visible in it.

These "artists" appear to have covered all the maps.

Really? Where did you hear this?

Now I'll have to examine every Red Line car I ride to make sure there's a vacant ad panel.

It may not be official policy but I've never seen a subway car that has had every ad panel filled. It always seemed deliberate.

Article says all the maps were covered, except one.

Ah, I missed that. Good on them for leaving a map visible then!

Put up some Bob Ross paintings instead. Much more relaxing to look at.

Now the cops know who needs to be ticketed for vandalism.

How incredibly selfish and thoughtless, I hope they arrest/fine the people that did this. People depend on the maps, making them inaccessible really screws anyone that doesn't have the system memorized.

lmao yeah definitely lets arrest them and charge them with as many crimes as possible. exemplary punishment for all involved.

maybe if they find out who did it, they could just ask that they not do it again, and maybe the T could consider providing some sort of space for local artists to showcase their wares and also maybe spruce the place up a bit.

or arrests could be made and court appearances could be had. fuck it, who cares, it isnt like we have any bigger fish to fry in this world.

Although now I'll have that earworm all day...

It's not like the trains are going anywhere these days, so might as well have something nice to look at while you're stuck at Central Square or where-ever for half an hour.
