Lyft driver held in lieu of $15,000 bail for allegedly stabbing woman on Blue Hill Avenue

Kiona Thomas, 25, of Roslindale, was arraigned today on a charge of assault with intent to murder, after allegedly stabbing a Dorchester woman in the throat during a Christmas altercation, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Prosecutors say a woman called up a Lyft ride around 11:20 p.m.. on Monday to get home from a friend's home on Blue Hill Avenue. When Thomas arrived, though, the the woman and Thomas got into an argument over how many passengers would come on the ride. The woman called her friend, who rushed out:

After the victim arrived outside, she became involved in a physical altercation with Thomas, during which Thomas allegedly stabbed her in the neck and fled.

The victim was able to make her way to a nearby Boston Fire Department station, where firefighters rendered medical aid until the woman was transported to Boston Medical Center by Boston EMS.

Thomas turned herself in to Boston Police shortly before 2:00 a.m. Monday. She allegedly made statements during a post-Miranda interview indicating that she had been involved in a physical altercation with the victim.

Prosecutors had asked for bail of $75,000 at her arraignment in Dorchester Municipal Court.

Innocent, etc.

Sounds like there is a lot more to this story than "driver stabs patron."

I get it, the driver was on the clock as a Lyft rep, but doesn't seem right that this is constantly referred to as "Lyft driver stabs customer" which is a pretty loaded statement. I don't know these people or what happened but I can take a wild guess that a bad attitude and/or alcohol played a role in whatever was the issue.

They vetted her and held her out to the public as a safe person. Of course it's appropriate to call her a lyft driver.

The globe is reporting she plead guilty to drug possession and resisting arrest in 2010. I bet lyft didn't even know about that when it put her on the platform.

Of course it is appropriate to call her a Lyft driver, she was taking a call using their service. The lack of screening is appalling.
