"We will fight back against attacks on Latinos, African-Americans, Muslims, immigrants, women, and LGBT Americans"

No mention of those evil white or asian men. I guess she won't fight for those groups.

Poor little bunny.

I guess you are still traumatized by the fact that she shares a name with your special safe space.

"We will fight back against attacks on Latinos, African-Americans, Muslims, immigrants, women, and LGBT Americans"

Warren is saying she'll defend the people President Pussygrabber profiled in his campaign for president. I don't recall him targeting white or Asian men. Do you?

Her work on the social contract, economic justice and against tricks and traps of banks and corp. fraud (see Wells Fargo) is on behalf or the poor and middle class without favor for race, gender, religion. That's the American way-- equal protection under the law.

Some folks in Trump's coterie show a bias for males over females, European Caucasians over Mexicans, white men and white supremacy uber alles, Christians over Muslims and Jews. That's just wrong and un-American.

You forgot Native Americans/American Indians. Apparently, she doesn't care about her roots...

You must've missed the whole brouhaha about her opponents criticizing her and claiming that the only reason she got anywhere in life is because she purposefully lied on her admissions form to undergrad by claiming that she has Native American ancestry. It is pretty much THE biggest negative her critics use to try and discredit her.
The alt-right has been calling her "Pocahontas" for months, just showing their true racist agenda.

I was trying to (a) deliberately waste that guy's time and (b) see what kind of explanation I might get and how a person would explain that in a way that wouldn't sound completely idiotic to a neutral observer

That has controlled the Senate since she was elected and which has been on a campaign of obstruction for years. I bet you can.

Warren's knowledge about what causes middle class families to thrive or fall into poverty is the premise of her candidacy for Senate and the area of her greatest influence on policy for her party. It was on the strength of her arguments about economic justice for the middle class that Obama won re-election in 2012 imo. She and Sanders are the parties two most prominent spokespeople engaging in outreach. She and her staff precipitated the resignation and prosecution of Wells Fargo CEO for shareholder fraud. It's worth watching. In two 5 minute long Q & As Warren makes the case that Wells Fargo business model is premised on fraud, caused real damages for customers and employees, and yielded ill-gotten gains for the CEO and management. The SEC and DOJ seem to agree.

Republicans are writing a bill that will take health insurance from 20 million Americans. Should they get credit for passing a bill that leaves those people without health insurance? Passing a bill is not a sign of productivity in Congress. It matters what the bill does. Sometime accomplishment is killing a bill or setting the debate.

And what of the savings Republicans expect to yield defunding healthcare from Obamacare to Planned Parenthood? Tax cuts for the rich baby. That is what Warren and progressive Democrats fight against, trickle down economics that never delivers for those in the middle and the poor.

But we also need people willing to speak up on important issues, and not just get paid off to keep their mouths shut. Elizabeth Warren starts a lot of important conversations that we may not be having otherwise. Maybe someday when the Repubs don't control everything, she'll be empowered to make the changes she'd like to see.

In July 2010, Congress passed the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, during the 111th United States Congress in response to the Late-2000s recession and financial crisis. The agency was originally proposed in 2007 by Harvard Law School professor Elizabeth Warren.

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau - Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consumer_Financial_Protection_Bureau

Not usually a fan of referencing wikipedia, but the information and links are all there if you go to the article,

In the meantime, I heartily recommend Schoolhouse Rock for a refresher course on how the legislative process works and what goes into the final products that are passed. When congresspeople actually do write bills (large chunks are often written by staffers, donors, constituents or experts) they are subject to amendment by their peers and those amendments can sometimes have far greater impact than the original text.

About the CFPB...back in October, federal court of appeals in DC ruled its structure was unconstitutional. I think both sides of the aisle can agree, this country needs less federal government and various agencies with unilateral powers and un-elected bureaucrats.

up
Voting closed 0

In other words, not the final word on the constitutionality in question.

I think the internet needs fewer commenters who flog failed concepts of governance like you just did here. Thatcherism failed. Reganomics failed. Supply-side economics fails repeatedly in places where it is being pushed (see also: Kansas). Failed. Seriously - you guys are getting as tiresome as those who thought that East Germany and the USSR and Cuba were utopias.

How did I "flog failed concepts of governance?" So what your're saying is you are okay with un-elected bureaucrats being safe No where did I mention concepts like Reaganomics or Thatcher-ism. But while we're at it, perhaps you can add Keynesian economics and socialism(see Venezuela) to that list.

You're correct in that its not the "final word" but US court of Appeals is right below the Supreme Court and is a pretty strong rebuke against the Agency.

"The director of the CFPB possesses enormous power over American business, American consumers and the overall U.S. economy," the appeals court ruling said. "That combination of power that is massive in scope, concentrated in a single person and unaccountable to the president triggers the important constitutional question at issue in this case."

You commenting on every single post UHub post is getting tiresome. Don't you have some cats to feed?

"You commenting on every single post UHub post is getting tiresome." - Says the person who has commented THREE times in a single UHub post.

CCD's commenting is getting tiresome.

I'll comment on whatever I damn well please. Particularly to call out ripe stupid where I see it.

BTW, Venezuela was an oligarchy that did some give back, which is slightly better than what Trump/Putin have in mind for us.. You would know that if you had any idea what "socialist" meant beyond an insult prized by Bratfart and other fools of fake news.

Yes, we need more Wells-Fargo, opening up accounts for everyday people no matter what their intents, Wall St to keep us in indentured servitude for as long as they wish so they can staff the private prisons so we can be sent to build Trump's wall. GE to run amok once again to create the new Pittsfield and Love Canals of the new millenium. And just what was wrong with the sewage being dumped into Boston Harbor anyways.

You haven't ever known a federal government that has too much power. There's never been such an animal in America since Reconstruction.

Take your small-government anarchist bullshit and blow.

Not even then -- unless federal power being used to prevent wholesale murder of freed blacks (and violent suppression of black voters), often by state governments was somehow illegitimate. I highly recommend the new biography of President Grant ("American Ulysses") to put Reconstruction into a more appropriate context.

Before she became Senator, Elizabeth Warren was the main reason why the Consumer Protection Bill was voted by Congress and signed into law by POTUS. Her scholarship and leadership led to the conception and establishment of the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The Republicans are now trying to eliminate the bureau that has returned over 1 Billion $$ to citizens who were scammed by various business operations.

Remember "Republicans and for business - Democrats are for people!"

More Campaigns/more Candidates are needed for State Secretary, Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to improve Elections practices and improve Records Management/Public Records practices. Boston City Council President Wu would be a great Candidate for Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The opposition can ONLY make snide Indian comments because they have nothing of substance to attack her with.

She is squeaky clean and is not going to put up with the Donald's brand of dishonesty.

She will get re-elected easily.

She is a major leader of the resistance against the real life Emperor's New Clothes we are all forced to live.

yeah yeah Pocohontas...we know.

and I'm a Libtard snowflake...blah blah blah...

Don't these spellcheck challenged morons realize that calling a New Englander a snowflake in the middle of winter isn't really an insult? No to mention that when you get enough snowflakes together it forms an ICE BERG!

Heh - and we all know how much all those Deep South types fear snowflakes. They certainly can't cope with them.

I mean, without Trump to attack how would she raise any money, and remain remotely relevant?

But not surprising.

I would image barring some major event, all 9 of Massachusetts' members of the House of Representatives will also be running for reelection in 2018, along with Charlie Baker, Karyn Polito, and most of the constitutional officers (though check back on Maura Healy. My money says she sits out of the Governor's race until 2022, but I wouldn't put heavy money on it.)

Warren's not early. She's not concerned about re-election.

What she is doing is starting up her campaign for 2020.

up
Voting closed 0

At east theoretically she should get by 2018 before thinking about 2020. Spend 2017 working are for the interests of Massachusetts. Spend 2018 tacking a bit to the center for reelection. Spend 2019 building up her base, and spend 2020 running for President.

She still hasn't come out with the obligory book. It took her predecessor a year to do that.

Thankfully Warren is up to fight against Trump, unlike all the never Trump republicans like Baker and Romney, who are all pro Trump now that he won.

US Senator announces re-election bid? That's not 'news', using the definition of the word. Running for re-election is the one thing our elected leaders consistently do.
