State Police are investigating a fatal crash on Enneking Parkway near Gordon Avenue around 7:30 p.m. yesterday in which one driver apparently swerved onto the wrong side of the road.
According to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office:
The preliminary investigation suggests that a Kia Sedan operated by an adult male crossed the center line and struck a Honda CRV operated by an adult female. The male driver died of his injuries at Brigham and Women’s Hospital; the female driver was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with minor injuries.

Why do they report the genders?
Condolences to the family and friends of the person who died, and I hope the other recovers quickly.
I don't understand how the genders are relevant, in such a concise report.
But then, why not?
If they listed their races, that would be weird. If the reader is trying to use the description to figure out who was at fault, then the sexes are irrelevant. But if you just want to get a more complete picture of what happened, listing the sexes is fine.
It makes it easier to be concise
The same report without the sexes:
The preliminary investigation suggests that a Kia Sedan operated by an adult crossed the center line and struck a Honda CRV operated by an adult. The driver of the Kia died of his/her injuries at Brigham and Women’s Hospital; the driver of the CRV was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with minor injuries.
Not driverless so
Why not say:
The preliminary investigation suggests that a Kia Sedan crossed the center line and struck a Honda CRV. The driver of the Kia died of injuries at Brigham and Women’s Hospital; the driver of the CRV was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with minor injuries.
Please explain
How is that more concise?
How are the genders meaningful?

You don't want our DA's office to be precise about circumstances?!
Enneking Pkwy is a lovely drive (for Boston) but that is partly due to its winding nature. An absent-minded moment -- say due to talking on a cellphone, dealing with kids in the back seat, or even unfortunate sun glare off the road -- and I could easily see this happening.
Very sad. Until the day of the self-driving car, then ....
But also why say they were
But also why say they were adults?
Statistics on younger v. older drivers
That does matter for the sake of counting incidents found when reviewing police reports to aggregate information.
