More grub, less pub planned for Beacon Street watering hole

The Boston Licensing Board votes tomorrow whether to let George Vinal and Angelo Stamos buy the Crossroads Irish Pub, 495 Beacon St. and turn it into a "neighborhood dining concept" called St. Locale.

"We're going to go food focused," Vinal told the board at a hearing today, adding that would include wine and craft-cocktail programs.

Vinal said converting the pub into a restaurant should not take long at all. St. Locale would have the same number of seats and hours as Crossroads.

The Neighborhood Association of the Back Bay and the mayor's office supported the request for a liquor-license transfer.

If you went to the hearing, how did they pronounce it?

I don't recall Vinal or his lawyer (the other guy wasn't there) actually mentioning the name of the place. I can tell you how "Crossroads" is pronounced, though :-).

The Dana-Farber Marathon team and other running groups use Crossroads as home base for Thursday night runs, and it's the current endpoint of the New Year's Day "Wellie-Ellie" Run - the Ellie being the old Eliot Lounge that was a haven for runners before getting a similar makeover in the 1990s.

Haven't heard yet on whether we'll need a new place - we used the now-defunct Arc (which was previously An Tua Nua) the last time Crossroads closed. But I would imagine.

You got rid of a money-making bar and will focus on food? Sounds like it'll be an expensive place to eat, in order to make up for the lost bar crowd/income...
