She can continue to build her resume and war chest as AG, then waltz into the corner office in 2020 when Charlie moves on to other things. Let Setti & Evan beat their heads against the wall this time around.

Falchuk wrote that while he is becoming a Democrat, he is doing so with the belief that the Democratic Party needs to change, in particular by hearing the voices of working Americans.

Her and Baker seem to get along well, and there is always the chance that they engage in a brutal campaign that ends with Baker getting reelected. She's got my AG support in 2018, and probably my support in 2022 (assuming she keeps on doing what she does and doesn't get tripped up by anything.)

She know she would get crushed by Charlie in this round.

Let's not assume too much. This is from April of 2012:

Martha Coakley intends to seek third term

That was when her favorability rating was 62-23.

She's plenty intelligent, but who knows if she has any interest in the job? It's a different skill set and different mission. Anyway, Massachusetts politics is constipated with establishment Dems, timeservers and rich-boy dilettantes like Baker. It's going to need a good roto-rootering before anyone who doesn't fit the demographic could win.

From day one as AG she's gotten herself in the news every week, and has built a network of allies. She will be the front-runner against anyone except a popular incumbent. The real question is whether she wants to take on the chore of trying to cajole the House and Senate leadership, who believe that the Governor's input, especially to the budget, is merely advisory. I think she's got the chops, but we will see.

What a shame! We need her, Marty Walsh, Elizabeth Warren or Mike Flaherty to run for Governor.
