New York's OK, but, seriously, Boston just rules

CFA Society Boston, which provides consulting for the sort of people who manage millions of dollars in investments, has these big ol' kiosk ads in Downtown Crossing and the Back Bay that sure seem to imply that the sort of people who manage millions of dollars in investments in Boston should stick to Boston consultants.

Fenway is not the finest ballpark. Better than Yankee Stadium, sure.

That bridge is fine but it's more iconic than the Brooklyn Bridge?

This is a world class example of parochial Boston thinking. We had our moment and it passed along with the clipper ships and the triangle trade. It's fine.

Why is it parochial to try to attract investment in Boston by trying to divert it from a nearby competitor?

It's super parochial to try to claim that a small modern bridge is better than an iconic bridge in one of the world's leading cities. I mean, get real. Let's double down and claim that the Paul Revere statue is as iconic as the Statue of Liberty while we're at it.

I have 0.0% problem with anyone trying to get business here over anywhere but not like this.

Maybe they're implying that coping the Brooklyn bridge would be worse than the Bunker Hill Zakim bridge? Or copying a new modern ballpark wouldn't be as endearing as Fenway? I didn't see parochial in this at all, just Boston being different enough to do what works for Boston instead of mimicking others? JMHO.

blah blah blah blah blah

It's tongue in cheek humor, ok? Try not to be so drearily culture-crit about it.

It seems to me that you're taking this way too seriously.

(I like it. It made me laugh.)

This is just internet nonsense at the end of the day but it strikes me as a deeply weird (and stupid) angle to take when trying to attract high end clients. Maybe rich idiots like Emily Rooney would like this, I'm really not the demographic

Fenway gets this praise mainly because it's located in a relatively safe and prosperous part of a relatively safe and prosperous city. Yankee Stadium is nice but it's in the Bronx, and you can't walk there from Times Square.

its design and construction was based largely on unproven methods and technology. Apart from its size, there is little that is unique about the Zakim Bridge from an engineering standpoint. So my nod goes to the Brooklyn Bridge.

I would have to give it to the Brooklyn Bridge, too. The Big Dig had some of the craziest engineering and methods pioneered ever, but, the Zakim itself not so much.

was proven technology. Even the "big freeze" they used to tunnel I-90 under the throat of South Station had been used previously in public works projects overseas. What made the project unique was the scale of the project (yes, including the budget overruns) as compared to previous applications of those technologies.

A hole in the ground or a giant pork belly?

at the time it was built, the Zakim was an engineering first, but I get your point.

Now we're letting investment folks provide critiques of design? Then we should also let design professionals critique all the wise decisions made by the finance people in the years leading up to 2008. Remember how they managed to almost destroy the economy?

In favor of New York, who developed the very first underground subway in the US before the Park Street tunnel was constructed.

Which was more of a novelty and demo than anything else, though.

However, even on a bad day, the NYCTA runs rings around the MBTA when it comes to service frequency and quality.

100% Correct. Just saying claiming the pneumatic tube was the first subway in the US is pretty iffy (just like claiming the Zakim is better than the Brookline Bridge ;) )

So when are you moving to NYC?

Especially late night transit. Anyone else remember the original Night Owl buses and how they had to zig zag in order to mimic the subway lines(in my the case the Green)?

The Brooklyn Bridge carries rapid-transit trains, bicycles, pedestrians and motor vehicles. Of all the sights to see in New York City, walking across the Brooklyn Bridge is one of the most memorable experiences you can have. A suggestion that the Zakim Bridge is somehow superior is absolutely ridiculous!

For an organization to use such a claim in their advertising shows they have no idea what they're talking about. I certainly would not seek them out for financial advice!

In addition, the Brooklyn Bridge was built by a woman, Emily Roebling.
