Bad news for Kendall Square bagel fans, relatively speaking

Boston Restaurant Talk reports Einstein Bros. no longer occupies space at the MIT Coop, so don't waste time going there.

You can travel faster than the speed of light and get there while they were still open.

Yeah, but if you travel that fast, all the employees will have aged and died by the time you get there.

That's a bit of a bummer. Their bagel was surprisingly good, tho their Pizza Bagel was mediocre. Especially compared to the now also departed Lechmere Finagle.

The best bagels outside the tri-state area are at Katz's in Chelsea.

walk to One Kendall, is Mamaleh's, which not only does terrific bagels, but the best version of traditional Eastern and Central European Jewish deli cuisine I've tasted in Boston in my lifetime. My review for The Improper. The gribenes are the schnibenes. Nearly everything but the smoked sable is made in-house. They make their own gorgeous, delicious celery soda, not as sweet as Dr. Brown's Cel-Ray. (I need a name for the highball I invented with that stuff, adding a shot of caraway-flavored Norwegian aquavit.) Nice people, too. Really brilliant.

I love a terrible pun.

Not at all convenient to Kendall Square - but in the opinion of this former brooklynite, Cafe Fresh Bagel in Dedham has the best bagels around.

I know they specialize in breakfast foods, but there's a LOT of demand for afternoon coffee and takeaway pastries in the area. They were closed any time I tried to swing by.
