Fire races through Roxbury duplex

Woodbine Street fire in Roxbury

One resident was taken to the hospital for observation after fire broke out at 23 Woodbine St. in Roxbury tonight.

The Boston Fire Department reports the fire, at which firefighters arrived at 6:54 p.m. and which went to two alarms, did an estimated $200,000 in damage. The cause is under investigation.

Five residents were displaced, the department says.

The fire was real bad. They had to house down houses and my house which is down the street smelled like smoke. I am glad no one was hurt.

Nice people that live there, they speak to you all the time.

I have a hunch that the latest cold weather spell has something to do with it, but that's my take on it.
