At some point, TV stations will have to just grab random people off the street to fill their screens

16 Channel 5 reporters and weather people on screen at once

As we've been breathlessly reporting all day, some local TV stations have waged a relentless battle today to see who could get the most on-air personnel on a screen at one time. Channel 7 threw down the opening gauntlet with an "8-box" (i.e., 8 reporters in little boxes at once), Channel 25 briefly got in the action with a 9-box, but then Channel 7 knocked them out with an 11-box - before Channel 5 topped them with a 12-box. Channel 7 caught up, but now it really looks like WCVB is determined to end this thing once and for all: Around 5 p.m., Channel 5 Executive Producer Scott Isaacs posted this screen capture of a screen-dominating 16-box display.

My DirectTV is out. Don't have to watch this silly horseshit. Hopefully it'll be back later so I can see Channel 7's take on how Tom Brady weathered the storm.

You don't need satellite, cable, or anything like that to watch Channel 7. They broadcast over the air.

Okay, an antenna would help, but still.

Here's the story
Of a lovely lady
Who was bringing up three very lovely girls
All of them had hair of gold
Like their mother
The youngest one in curls

It's the story
Of a man named Brady
Who was busy with three boys of his own
They were four men
Living all together
Yet they were all alone

'Til the one day when the lady met this fellow
And they knew that it was much more than a hunch
That this group must somehow form a family
That's the way we all became the Brady bunch

The Brady bunch, the Brady bunch
That's the way we became the Brady bunch

Not having the stomach to actually turn on the TV and witness this idiocy on my own... do they all talk at once, or do they take turns while the rest of them just stand there getting wet while staring stupidly into a lens covered in wet droplets?

They all just look stern and nod or whatever, then the screen goes away and Ed and Maria pop up and then they go to Harvey, followed by Mike Wankum, back to Ed, who introduces a story with one of those reporters that makes him sigh and take off his glasses, then Maria introduces another story with the guy slowly going insane standing on a mostly deserted snow-covered street in Fitchburg, etc. etc., etc.

I used to work at 7. Not all those guys are live, they would make the reporters tape "nods" to the camera to put in those little boxes.

No wonder nobody trusts the media anymore...

That makes it less stupid. *snark*

Seriously, this issue has bugged me since I was a kid. It's not "news" when all you do is cut to various reporters all day long basically saying "Yup! Still snowing here!" over and over again for 24 hours. The fact that they're putting them all on screen at the same time just shows how ridiculous it is.

You'd think New England never sees snow by the amount of public freakout and grocery hoarding going on. "Hardy" my ass. LOL

Did the Potsquatch appear in the middle of the X in Springfield again today?

We need more punking of on-air "reports" of STILL SNOWING HERE of this caliber.

travel the state all day in what could be bat mobiles with antennas and continually show the same shots, its time to switch to regular programming,
If that wasn't bad enough 1 station told us the depth of snow in apples on a skewer.
WTF!!!!

WHEEL - OF - FORTUNE!!!

The anchors should be guessing letters and Vanna White should be turning them over.

Not all are live, many are recorded in advanced. They're called a look-live.

They pack anymore in and it will look like a yearbook.

My favorite is when they are standing out there for hours on end having driven there in the blizzard and they have the gaul to give random people walking by in snowshoes sass for being outside in these conditions.
