Kids with no names on a street with no sidewalks

The folks at the Boston City Archives wonder if you can place this scene. See it larger.

Those punk Kennedy boys, just
Those punk Kennedy boys, just before they were chased back down Pleasant Street and back into Brookline where they belonged.
West Roxbury, 1958
Not much to go on with this photo, so this is a blind guess. (OK the kids attire and haircuts suggest pre-Beatles, so that's why I went for the 1950's.)
Bangs And Hair Over-The-Ears Are Definitely Post-Beatles
( none of the boys have crew cuts — must be late 60's or 1970's )
That's early to mid 70s
99% sure.
looks like
Pleasantville
Actually, it looks like a street in my neighborhood
in Lynn (the Fays Estate) in the early 1970s.
It is
That's the house my wife grew up in - in Pleasantville, NY.
If not - looks pretty much the same as Everywhere, suburbia USA early/mid-20th c.
Brighton?
Not much to go on here, but the house in back feels like Brighton. I'd also say 1950s.
Great photo!
A rare sight these days....Kids playing outside.
Not sure what planet that you
Not sure what planet that you live on, but in my neighborhood every damn kid plays outside year round.
Street Lights
Because of the style of street light I would place it around mid to late 60's. But where? Not sure.
Those kind of streetlights
Those kind of streetlights were introduced in the late '50s, so I'll guess they might not have appeared on a dirt road too soon after that, and go with 1965.
Westinghouse OV25 Silverliner — First Generation (1957-1964)
The streetlight is a Westinghouse model OV25 Silverliner. These were the first "cobrahead" style lights produced by any manufacturer. Westinghouse updated their OV25 design in 1964 with a more rounded appearance:
( original OV25 ) (updated OV25 )
Cobrahead style streetlights were made by other companies, but like cars, each had its own distinctive styling. Just as there are vintage car buffs who can identify old cars in a picture, there are also vintage lighting buffs who can identify the makes and models of old lighting fixtures.
So, based on the streetlights, the picture is
no earlier than 1957, but it could be much later.Update: MrZip's catch on the photocell (below) dates the fixture as no earlier than 1964.
Excellent link, thanks!
But photocell seems closer to the mast arm, like the updated version, the older version the cell is over the lamp, I could be wrong on this, idk?
As for the clothes, that's how I've always dressed, 60's, 70's (brief diversion in the 80's) ...and now.
Good Catch On The Photocell—You're A Better Lighting Geek Than I
Though Frangioso from Brockton is probably the definitive expert — a vast collection of photos taken all over the Boston area:

Or northeast.
Houses don't look like that older one in much of the country.
railroad ties?
west Roxbury elgin street
Grew up in West Roxbury
In the 60's. This coulda been any house any street there.
Does that kid
have his head stuck in the fence???
No - his tongue
His friends challenged him to lick the fence and it stuck there - his name is Ralphie.
Looking at the shadows, I
Looking at the shadows, I wonder if the street runs close to East-West. Maybe ESE to WNW.
A straight block.
Flat in the immediate area.
Some suggestion of a hill in the far background.
The first house seems moderately distinctive. Mostly a Cape size/shape, with a single centered front dormer. A lot have either none or two.
If the house is the same today...
I had a little time, played around with google 3d view. I looked at some of the blocks in Readville, east of the RR and south of Neponset Valley Pkwy - didn't find a match yet.
The Answer
Thanks for playing, folks! This photo was taken on Livermoore Street on June 10, 1970

When someone answered Mattapan, I did think the houses looked like many in the Wood Ave neighborhood in HP/Mattapan line. I was a RE agent in the area in the 90s.
