Food mystery: Victoria's Diner taking over fabled South End sandwich-shop space, but for what?

Boston Restaurant Talk reports the owners of Victoria's Diner in Newmarket Square are taking over the space long occupied by Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe, bu that it's unclear whether they plan a second diner-type place there or will keep Charlie's as it was.

Last I heard new owners were trying to make a go of Charlie's Version 2. Anyone know what happened?

Obviously, they made a hash of it.

(I'll show myself out).

IMHO, they never really seemed to understand how to run a diner. Food was ok but not great. They opened kinda late (8am). Some of the staff was friendly, but missing the warmth of the original family business.

Like many restaurants, they were closed Mondays. But showing what I consider a lack of great business sense, they stuck to that schedule and were closed Marathon Monday when the neighborhood was hopping.

Adam, the South End really isn't all that large. To me, that's South Bay.

Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe is 429 Columbus Ave., between W. Newton and Dartmouth. If that isn't South End, I don't know what is.

If you look a bit more closely at my post, I identified Victoria's Diner as being in Newmarket Square. I'd accept South Bay for that, although I tend to think of the mall as being South Bay and the area past it as Newmarket, but whatever, I didn't say Victoria's Diner is in the South End. As for the tag, well, that applies to Charlie's.

A couple of days ago, I wrote about a shooting on Shawmut Avenue that I said happened in the South End, when it was actually on the Roxbury end of that street. The person who posted above called me out on that (and rightly so). Then he or she thought I'd made a similar mistake here. In this case I was right, but I didn't specify Charlie's address in the original post, but, honestly, neither thing is a big enough deal to get worked up over.
