DA: Mom drove teen stabber from Dudley murder scene

McKinley Archie, 15, was ordered held without bail at his arraignment today for the death of 18-year-old Anthony Woodbridge on Warren Street in Dudley Square yesterday morning, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Judge David Poole ordered Archie - to be tried as an adult - held after hearing assistant District Attorney Craig Iannini recount the basic case against him: That the teen was in a car with two adults around 9:50 a.m. when the car stopped outside 55 Warren, Archie got out and stabbed Woodbridge in the chest.

An adult also exited the vehicle and intervened. She pulled McKinley away from the victim and back into the car, which left the area. Witnesses provided the car’s license plate to investigators and identified McKinley from a photo array, leading to his arrest late yesterday afternoon.

The Globe reports Iannini said the adult was Archie's mother.

Because of this and other outbreaks of violence since July 4th, Mayor Walsh and BPD officials met today with religious and community leaders from Mattapan, Roxbury and Dorchester. Among the concrete steps: Opening up BCYF community centers in the neighborhoods later in the evening to provide teens and families a place to go - and ensuring a police officer is stationed at each center during the later hours. Officials also agreed to try to develop programs for kids who are too old for summer camp or too young for a city-sponsored job.

Innocent, etc.

That apple probably didn't fall far from the tree. I wonder if she'll or they'll be charged as accessories?

Also Dorchester, Mattapan, and Roxbury don't need more police and youth centers. They need jobs and better education.

Well, those are in India now. And the ones that are left are needed by adults.

The unemployment rate is 4.4%. Lower in Mass and Boston. If you can get out of bed and fog a mirror you can get a job. Friend that runs a restaurant said he employs 30 positions. Last year s/he sent out 60 W-2s because people can quit and be working the next day. And the pay is decent -$25 k and up.

Have you been to a retail store lately? Half the people the register can barely run the machine.

25K a year is $12/hr. That is not decent in Mass. But I should've said education, then jobs. Being poor and/or prone to crime isn't a symptom of being black or a minority, or from living in Dor/Rox/Mat (and I know that's not what you said). It's a symptom of under-education and lack of living wage paying jobs.

Roommate

Two people should do just fine in Mass on $50k per year, or roughly the national median income. Not a luxurious life, but food shelter clothing transportation and state subsidized health care.

And nobody says you have to work just one job if you are motivated enough.

We have hospitals which print money, financial firms which print money, and colleges which get gobs of federal dollars to stay in business.

This conversation is about youth underemployment. Is your friend the restaurateur hiring inner city teenagers to wait tables? Are inner city teenagers even included in the rate? Can't be unemployed if you've never looked for work in the first place.

So the jobs of yesteryear for youths are being outsourced to India? What jobs are those? Are Indian kids doing a paper route remotely from New Delhi? Or are you talking about youth factory labor?

Unemployed means you don't have a job. If you never had a job it means you don't have a job...thus are unemployed.

Problem is a job isn't attractive to those people engaging in a criminal lifestyle. They'd rather make their nut committing street crime or scamming the dole than honest work. It's a sociological issue more so than an economic issue which makes it even worse. They made a choice to be jerk out of shear indifference or downright PRIDE in being a hoodlum when other options were available and that makes it even sadder/worse than the people elsewhere which turn to crime out of hopelessness. Boston isn't Detroit or Baltimore, there's no economic reason here for kids to be interested in gang life and yet they are.

Again people by default aren't born criminals or deviants. We all become a product of our environment. Good or bad. If you come from a neighborhood or city that doesn't have much economic hope you resort to crime, violence, or opioids. Same goes for family structure.

There are more good people in these neighborhoods than there are bad. It's piss poor parenting not the cop out you sited.

it's also true, that the bad people who were badly-brought up and go out and commit these crimes do not have to be in the majority to present a major problem for the others.

It's economic.

Pushing dope for $2000/week is much more attractive than flipping burgers for $300/week. Plus there's the whole male power trip thing wrapped up into the line of work because of both the dangers from police and other gangs.

Take away the money and the risk is just not worth it. Organized crime is around because black markets are very lucrative enterprises for the uneducated, and they accept the risk because of how much they stand to gain.

No economic reason???? Have you checked market rent lately??? A city job doesnt even pay enough to live in the city you work for!

Sure, the overall crime rate is down here in Boston and other big cities here in the United States, but it certainly seems to be creeping up again.

Just cut the head off of a gang in Dorchester, and I think didn't they did the same in East Boston?

Nature doesn't like a vacuum, and little shit stains probably see their chance to fill in the hole. BPD / Feds try to round up as many as they can, but they never get them all and violence breaks out as things reorder in their absence as the hierarchy and turf gets reordered.

One thing to keep in mind, almost all of these crimes are committed between people that know each other. Hopefully it stays that way.

The Mayor and Police Commissioner are clueless when it comes inner city crime. They have the same "quotes" year after year about there solutions to the problem. When they solve a crime it is great Police work, when it it unsolved they need the help of the community. Pathetic

Clueless? What's to know of the crime of stabbing someone to death?

I guess this answers the classic teen on teen homicide question... "Where were the parents"

Except it's not funny. I feel almost as bad for the perpetrator as I do for the victim

Well maybe this was more hockey mom / pit bull for driving her kid to a stabbing.

I worry more about teens with no place to go at 1 AM than 9:50 AM.

Sounds like the Mom should be held responsible; not the Mayor or Police Commissioner. We're not paying public officials or public employees (in most cases) to be parents. We should be educating people (all ages) that having children is a job that requires hard work.

The mother needs to be charged too. We need stricter punishment for these violent youth.
