Add the Dig to the (long) list of things Emily Rooney doesn't like

Or as she called it last week, the Big Dig, whose reporting on the racist history of the Red Sox she didn't much care for.

The quality of writing at the Dig is very amateurish.

I remember a story years ago where Faraone opened with an analogy about being asked if one had weed at the U.S-Canada border, then saying "you know what? I don't want to enter Canada," and banging a U-turn.

The article had nothing to do with marijuana or border security. I grew up in Burlington, VT reading Seven Days, the best alternative paper in the country, bar none. It's embarrassing that the Athens of America has such a terrible alt weekly of record.

Also, they got rid of a column penned by my good friend Liz. Screw 'em.

I used to be annoyed by his constant drug references, but I think he's matured a lot over the past few years. His writing is on point now.

Since the writers are barely getting paid, that wouldn't be surprising. However, I found the article in question well written enough, and its hard to argue with its conclusion that Boston has a race problem in its sports community.

Its logical to have reservations about Jones incident at Fenway.
Nobody heard it, or saw it.
At Fenway. It wreaks of BS or racist remark said that nobody can witness in crowd of a couple hundred in that section.

This sums up my thoughts on your post.

Why do you think Adam Jones would make up this incident? Just for laughs?

His history repeats itself. Look it up. Google him. There's never a witness.

I know who he is, he's a good player and an outspoken one. You didn't answer my question.

except being called the N word has been corroborated by other black baseball players. stay class sox fans...keep thinking the Red Sox and racism doesn't go hand in hand....in 2017 no less. sad and pathetic.

time to move fenway to new hampshire so the sox can be closer to their fan base....and it will keep the trash out of our great city.

Go Cubs!

Are you related to Stephen Bickerton Jr, who allegedly assaulted two gay men last month?

Wouldn't it be easier to create a list of things she likes and safely assume anything not on that list she hates?

Does anyone have a link to the transcript or audio of what our resident "Let Them Eat Cake" spokesperson actually said?

I watched her talk about this and what I understood was she thought the article was badly written. Nobody honest can really doubt the incident, and nobody on the panel doubted it. But apparently their is a radio show host on Weei(?) that did. the Dig article then got a quote from the RedSox owner ship that said that this radio show host is offensive (sometimes?). the radio show host went snap on the redsox and the writer and is now suspended.

The article also had some historical context about racism in baseball and boston.

The other panelists agreed that it was badly written. But It did not seem that she hated the Dig.

The only show she does now is Beat the Press on Fridays, where she, Dan Kennedy and the usual suspects discuss the ins and outs of this dying industry and worry about standards. I can totally see her saying that she doesn't like the writing from the Dig (which face it, is just people who wrote for their college paper who have graduated). It's a leap to assume that she thinks Adam Jones made that story up, but pretending is fun. The guys who claim that it never happened are liars, or never attended a Red Sox game in their life. (You don't believe that a couple of drunk idiots would use that word in Fenway? Really?). No need to lump her in with them. The kicker is that Rooney is extremely liberal like most of the posters here. Her beliefs may align 99.9% with yours, but she once said something to anger the "bicycles are the center of the universe" crowd and now she is as popular as Trump. It takes a village.
