Domestic-assault suspect who forced lockdown of Beverly Hospital arrested after foot chase in Dudley Square

Charles Dixon

Boston Police report the arrest last night of Charles Dixon, 32, of Reading, on charges of domestic assault, witness intimidation and violation of a domestic-violence restraining order.

Beverly Police had ordered their local hospital shut Wednesday night when they searched for him nearby. They didn't find him, but they and State Police head he might have headed to Roxbury and alerted BPD, where officers were already familiar with him because he'd been arrested in Boston before:

The officers were familiar with the suspect due to an unrelated prior arrest and were aware that he may be in the area of the Dudley Triangle operating a white Acura sedan. Officers soon located the suspect vehicle in the area of 68 Warren Street and began to follow it as it made several turns down different side streets. The officers remained behind the vehicle, continuing to follow it without attempting to stop it until the vehicle finally pulled up to the gated entrance of the District B-2 parking lot at which time the operator slowly stepped out of the vehicle. The officers immediately recognized the suspect who then took off running through the police station parking lot with the officers close behind. The officers called off on their foot pursuit as additional responding units joined the chase. The suspect cut across several busy lanes of traffic on Dudley Street and ran into the MBTA bus station where officers were able to stop him and place him in custody after a brief struggle.

Innocent, etc.
