Teen arrested with loaded gun at West Roxbury high school

Gun and bullets

Police: This is the gun and ammo recovered from the teen.

Boston Police report arresting a 16-year-old they say showed up at the West Roxbury Education Complex with a gun today.

BPD officers arrived at the VFW Parkway building, which houses two high schools, around 11:15 a.m., after school officials learned the student might have a gun on her.

The officers were quickly able to stop the student and recover the loaded handgun from the student's backpack.

She will be arraigned Monday in juvenile session on charges of being delinquent for unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.

This incident could have gone terribly wrong. The fact that the teachers, students, administration and police were able to work together so well and pro-actively address it before anything happened is an incredible example of teamwork. Schools should be a safe space for students, teachers and administration. Hopefully this arrest will prevent others from trying to do the same thing.

... but that thing looks like it's only marginally more lethal to the person it's pointed at, than to the person holding it.

The cult of firepower fetishists might lead you to think that, but we have no idea of the skill of the user or the actual condition of the weapon. This is still a gun, still holds bullets that can maim or kill, and still has no place at school.

I have no idea; just commenting on what to my untrained eye looks like really sloppy manufacturing. Of course it has no business in a school; what are you on about?

[edit] Google image search is my friend -- what I thought was crappily screwed-together parts is actually a laser sight attached to the gun.
