The Boston Fire Department reports no injuries and one soggy cat rescued from a three-alarm fire at 360 Meridian St. in East Boston this afternoon.
The department reports firefighters responded around 12:40 p.m. for a fire that caused an estimated $500,000 in damage to the eight-unit building and spread from the third floor to the roof.
Firefighter David McSweeney of Engine 7 found the cat inside the building and brought him or her out:
Cat was placed in a Chiefs car and the heat turned up. To be reunited with its owner.

Adorable!
( thank you, Firefighter McSweeney — gallant hero of cats! )
Thank goodness for folks like
Thank goodness for folks like this. Firefighters are some of the last unambiguous heroes we have left.
I keep those "pets inside" decals on my doors. I wouldn't want a firefighter to risk their own life looking for them but my worst fear is the cats dying because no-one ever knew they were there.
Everything else is just stuff. Off to look for some kind of donation avenue, I want to buy their station a round and hug my own kitties tight.
Super happy story!!
