MBTA pre-announces delays again

The T is advising people to add an extra 15 to 20 minutes to their morning commutes to account for the sort of delays you might expect on a system that still has problems dealing with frigid temperatures and heavy amounts of snow.

Train 900 (the 6:20 a.m. train from Stoughton) and Train 401 (the 6:25 a.m. train from Boston to Fitchburg) have been canceled.

Customers from Stoughton and Canton Center are advised to take Train 902 (6:45 a.m. from Stoughton) or Train 804 (6:00 a.m. from Providence), which will make additional stops at the following times: Canton Junction at 6:41 a.m., Route 128 at 6:47 a.m. (normally scheduled), and Hyde Park at 6:53 a.m. Also cancelled tomorrow morning is Fitchburg Line Train 401 (6:25 a.m. from Boston). Customers are asked to board Train 491 (6:45 a.m. from Boston), which will be extended to make all stops between Littleton/Route 495 and Wachusett.

Ferry services will operate on normal schedules, except ferries from Hingham, which are canceled until an ice-damaged dock can be repaired.

Soon, with the arrival of Amazon imminent if you believe Shirley Leung, then Bezos will wave his magic wand of cash and we will have Musk's vaunted Hyperloop within months! The T? Who cares?

If those outbound trains are combined, then something isn't running inbound.

401 usually gets to Wachusett at 7:45 and turns to become the 8:00 inbound (410). It won't get there until 8:20, so 410 is going to be delayed.

491 turns and becomes the 492, the 7:55 inbound from Littleton. This won't run.

Unless the T has some trickery up its sleeves.

Narrator: It doesn't.

408 making all stops, pretty simple, not so tricky

It's irritating that they say they're modifying the schedule so they can run reliably. Cancelling one train, and covering it by making an express run local, ending up half an hour late (IF it sticks to the schedule), is NOT reliable service. Even if they announce it the night before.

They should just be honest and say this is the best they can do with the number of trains broken down from the cold, or whatever the real reason is.

Though honestly, I am more worried about the commute from home to Forest Hills on surface streets than the commute from Forest Hills to Back Bay.

I wish everyone the best and hope that this is like last Tuesday's warnings (though sadly probably not.)

Calling severe delays "moderate"? Bending and breaking the truth is more like it

My commute on the Orange Line was no different than most other Monday morning commutes, which means it was not that bad. I understand that the north side had issues, but most of the people I talked to coming from Forest Hills had an uneventful commute. Perhaps you moved here after February and March of 2015, but I have burned into my consciousness what a severe commute is like, and that time period is the baseline for severe.

Now, the fact that there were no buses on Hyde Park Ave, meaning I had to walk a mile and a half, is another issue altogether, but no one cares about the buses. They're for the plebes.
