Quincy Center T stop becomes an ice palace

Icicles in Quincy Center Red Line station

Karen Adams shows us the Quincicles now hanging from the ceiling above the platform at the Quincy Center Red Line station:

This icicle situation inside (yes, inside) the Quincy Center MBTA is a total disgrace. It’s been like this since the morning commute. Hope my fellow residents get home safely without taking one of these to the skull (or slipping on the ice-coated platform)

The MBTA promises to investigate.

Wow! I was there during the cold snap and was surprised about all the ice. Bad design with all the outdoor balcony’s which by sheer nature are going to freeze first. What a mess!

Just wow.

Surely there has to be a way to waterproof the ceiling of this station. I mean, this is a major station.

Kinda hard to "waterproof a ceiling". Are you aware of the condemned garage up top?

All I gotta say is that there has to be a way to keep water from getting to the platform of an enclosed station.

Thankfully, other anons have noted that a rebuild of the station is planned. What can I say? I don't visit Quincy Center.

Which reminds me skip the restroom or you risk getting stuck with a needle. Today there were four transit police cruisers doubled parked on Burgin Parkway blocking buses and vehicles dropping off passengers. I'm sure they never even ventured downstairs to check out the platform full of Quincicles. The CR platform reeks of cigarette and pot and the elevator is used as a urinal. No wonder no one pays to ride the dread line.

Nah. Still can"t be as bad as North Station and South Station. Smoking is now accepted inside Valenti Way entrance. So is peeing on the floor. And exchanging of drugs with no discretion. World class, baby. World bleepin' class.

Teflon Charlie is somehow not responsible. According to what I read, he is still adored by the majority of voters. Those of us who use the T know that the entire system is crumbling. Stairs, inside and outside are literally crumbling. Water drips everywhere, and some wet areas in passageways and platforms are permanently wet. The trains are constantly breaking down or making awful sounds like they will break soon. Everywhere you walk and touch is filthy dirty.

But Teflon Charlie is not responsible. And where is Luis "no experience required" Ramirez? Luis?

If you could propose someone that could fix the T, I might not vote for Charlie. If you can fix the T, you can fix anything.

Clearly you haven't ridden the MBTA since Dukakis was in office. It's been a crumbling shithole since at least 1989

Ever since Dukakis cut the station's ops and maintenance budget so he could extend the line to Lexington and Braintree: the line has been junk

Just because Stan the Husband "can't have NoHo subsidizing Boston so where are my road repair handouts" Rosentwit and other highly corrupt "leaders" have "D" in their name doesn't mean that they haven't done their share to loot, gut, and starve the MBTA in turn.

Quincy Center Station needs a major renovation to the Train station and busway. One way to get up from the train is a nightmare The bus area is way too small The 225 bus should load on the Burgin St Entrance since there are too many people blocking the way for those of us that need to get to other buses

If I'm not mistaken there are plans in place for a major overhaul of this station and Wollaston in the next couple of years. Work could start when the weather turns. I think its that soon. Though, in all fairness, its clearly not soon enough. At least its happening.
As far as blaming Baker, I give him a lot of credit for doing the unflashy things that really matter like adding car maintenance facilities and cleaning up the decades old way of running a hideously inefficient system. Not an easy tide to turn. Once the foundation is fixed we should be in a better place for a bright future. Not as easy to see as new train cars but just as important.

Overhauling Wollaston in the next couple years, can’t wait for that to start

Drove by Monday it looks almost completely demolished. Looks like it will be almost completely rebuilt.

...and it looks like they are in the process of demolishing the garage above the station which has been closed for 5 years at least. I wouldn’t be surprised if that turns out to be a factor. Apartments and offices are set to go above the station itself. Those buildings will also cover the open space used for a busway, which will be relocated. The developers will renovate the station & restore parking
