Crying woman who claimed she and her son have cancer threatened to blow up South Boston bank in robbery

South Boston bank robber

A woman who demanded exactly $5,300 robbed the East Boston Savings Bank branch at 430 West Broadway Monday afternoon after telling the teller that both she and her son had cancer and that she would blow up the bank with the device she was holding if she did not get the money, the FBI Bank Robbery Task Force reports.

Police say the woman wore a face mask, blue hospital scrubs, purple gloves and black and white shoes with white laces during the robbery, shortly before 1 p.m.

She was 5'1" and Dominican, the task force says, adding she also "appeared emotionally unstable and was crying."

If she looks familiar, contact the task force at 857-386-2384.

These days they usually just set off the silent alarm and wait for the police. You don't want to endanger employees or customers trying to take someone down over a 'small' sum of money.

How do they know she's Dominican?

She and the teller both speak Spanish and the teller recognized her accent as Dominican.

She had a vintage Ocean Pacific jacket on over her scrubs. Witnesses saw the "OP" logo and determined that she was a Dominican nun (whose order is abbreviated "OP" -- EVERYONE knows that).

...a 5'-1'' Dominican wearing hospital or nursing home attire that just had a bad thing happen in her life, well, she'll get caught.

I do feel bad for her. She's no bank robber.

Only her desperation is relatively recent, compared to many other bank robbers.
