Swampscott man already charged with raping two women at gunpoint in Boston is charged with three more rapes

Joseph Losano of Swampscott, arrested in May on charges he picked up two women working as prostitutes in the area of Newmarket Square and raped them, was indicted yesterday on charges he raped three more women, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

A Suffolk County grand jury indicted Losano, 52, on 12 counts of aggravated rape, six counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and single counts of rape and aggravated kidnapping, the DA's office reports.

Losano was ordered held in lieu of $175,000 bailand was ordered to surrender his passport and any firearms and stay out of Boston while his case is pending.

According to the DA's office:

The victims made photographic identifications of Losano as the man who picked them up under the guise of seeking sex for a fee but instead pulled a gun on them and forced them to engage in additional sexual conduct against their will. In one case, the assailant locked the doors and window of his vehicle so the victim could not escape. The victims’ descriptions were consistent as to appearance, demeanor, and vehicle - a white pickup truck similar to one owned by Losano.

Losano, a veteran who served tours in four branches of the armed forces, along with the National Guard and the Air Force Reserves, unsuccessfully tried several times for a career in law enforcement, first as a reserve officer in Swampscott, then as a trooper in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Innocent, etc.
