Today's least surprising endorsement: Conley backs Henning for DA

Suffolk County DA Dan Conley today made it official: He's endorsing assistant DA Greg Henning to succeed him in the Sept. 4 Democratic primary:

Greg has proven himself to be a leader among his peers in smart prosecution and community engagement. The next District Attorney needs to prioritize public safety while continuing Suffolk County’s leadership in reforming prosecution practices, such as expanding the state’s first Conviction Integrity Program. From his plan to address unsolved shootings, to his proposed Law Enforcement Early Diversion mentoring program, Greg has proven he is ready to do this job, and I am proud to endorse him.

Conley had more quietly made his support known in March, when he contributed $500 to the Henning campaign. A number of assistant DAs have also supported Henning financially.

Henning is running against Evandro Carvalho, Shannon McAuliffe, Linda Champion and Rachael Rollins in the primary.

Gah, heat must be getting to me.

I'm a bit worried about his progressive challengers splitting the vote. Are people coalescing around one of them? Personally, I'm leaning towards Rollins at the moment.

I'm voting for Carvahlo alhough Rollins seems to be worthy except for one thing . Rollins campaign sent me 3 robo texts the other day and also to many other people as has been documented here at Uhub. My cell phone number is private (I thought) and I never give it to anyone. Her campaign addressed the text to my name although many others have received robo texts addressed to an incorrect name. Robo calls are bad enough, but some people, depending on their plan, will have to pay for robo texts. I dont like it, told the campaign, and will never vote for her for anything.

I also received a robo text and I do not mind. I know some people do, but they all get their lists from the State Democratic Party who buys lists from various sources. It's not their fault if your mobile was not supposed to be listed. And it certainly is not enough reason to not vote for such an important seat. She is the ONLY candidate who has managed more than 18 people in this race, and the ONLY one who can do the job on day one. This job is too important to learn on the job having NEVER done ANY management of a decent size before. The office is 275 people, 150 of which are lawyers. Please reconsider.

I just got one from the Jay Gonzalez for Governor campaign. Same format as the Rollins text. Both messages break out to 3 texts and both start with "Hey (my name)" .This seems to be a strategy of the Democratic Party. I informed the person or machine that I dont like this and that some people do not have unlimited texting plans so some recipients may be charged for these texts. The person or machine thanked me for my response and wished me a "good day"..

Rollins is definitely the play. I actually do think she's the best of the 3 progressives, but even if I didn't I'd still vote for her as the leading candidate to prevent Henning.

Rollins seems cool but nothing like home grown talent. There is not much difference between the progressives but Evandro grew up in Roxbury and was educated in the Boston Public School System. I don’t believe Rollins moved to the district until the seat opened up. Correct me if I’m wrong.

What's weird about this comment and general concern is that Evandro was born and raised in Cape Verde until he was 14 or 15 years old. He came to Boston and went to school for just a few years before leaving to DC for college. Shannon McAuliffe is from California. It's so strange that THAT is considered being "from here" when Rachael and Greg are the only two born in Boston... Rachael in Dorchester and Greg in Beacon Hill.

Rollins was born in Boston, lived in Boston and worked in Boston for years. At some point, like many people, she went to go buy a home and Medford made sense at the time. How is that any different than moving to Hyde Park? How is that worse than living on Beacon Hill?

She is just as close to what many people consider to be "Boston" as a resident in Winthrop. Yet as others have pointed out her opponents are mostly not from here but moved here. You make it sound like she took the Commuter Rail in from Rockport to Boston for the first time in her life... come on seriously stop trolling.

that matters. Greg is progressive. He’s also in favor of public safety and advocating for victims. You need to be committed to those things to be an effective DA.

The people in neighborhoods most impacted by violence don’t care about labels. They want someone who is fair, smart and committed to their safety. Greg ticks all of those boxes.

Dan Conley is a good and ethical person. When a prisoner might have legitimate issues with his conviction, DA Conley's office does not hesitate to try to see what the truth is, even if it means an overturned conviction. He is not afraid of finding true justice. He was doing this long before it became popular.

This is not a common practice in the trade nation wide. Many prosecutors will fight vigorously to prevent judicial review of cases that are considered a 'done deal'.

If he's endorsing assistant DA Greg Henning, that is a powerful testament to Henning's character.

If Henning had any integrity he would refuse the Conley endorsement.

Two wonderful LEGAL immigrant Medical Doctors brutally, brutally, murdered in South Boston because Conley's office changed two bank robberies to "pickpocket" and agreed to a 364 day sentence because 365 (1 year) would have triggered deportation for their bank robber. Unheard of elsewhere.

In appreciation for Conley fooling around with the solid bank robbery charges, the green card holder went to Southie and killed the two LEGAL immigrant Doctors. I'm sure that is why Conley is stepping down but Henning just lost my support. This is really shameless. Who are the other choices?

So which candidate are you voting for?

I'm voting for Dr. Lively against Tall Deval so won't have a chance to vote Democrat. Did not realize Josh Zakim was such a pathetic candidate who hadn't voted until far-left Jim Braudie got him to admit on ch. 2

My checks clear in Suffolk County. Politicians have no problem cashing them, including many Democrat.

Curious if there is anyone who is not lunatic left in the Suffolk DA race?

If Henning accepts Conley endorsement without addressing double murders of Medical Doctors killed by Green Card double bank robber given special treatment as "pickpocket" then he is not worthy of any police support. I will contact my union officials privately, I pay enough in annual dues.

Most cops would rather donate to any far-left nut that will actually put bank robbers in prison before they can murder two nice MDs.

Really Fish? Even you are better than that. Or so I thought until now. Sad.

Fishy is an out of touch wacko extremist even in the world of right wing cops. In my neighborhood in Dorchester, the cops and ex-cops have Henning lawn signs.

As you know Lively's major issue is advocating the criminalization of homosexuality, and the criminalization of talking about homosexualtiy. Please do tell us what you think the penalty should be for being and talking about being a homosexual.

So which candidate are you voting for?

Do you have any documentation or links to support your charges? Unfortunately you have flat out lied about other issues like accusing people of supporting MS13, so its difficult to believe you on this one.

Not sure you've been paying attention to the race. The other candidates aside from Henning would have declined to prosecute the bank robber at all. They would have dropped the charges completely and begged his forgiveness for having to endure the ordeal of being arrested. They would have showered him with training and "programs".

"Conley is a good and ethical person? Tell it to the 2 dead MDs"

Maybe that clusterf#rk will shed light on how the judges are gaming the system. It was the courts that came up with the sentence in that case. How much drag the DA's office had in it, I don't know, but ultimately, it's the judge's call.
If the DA signed off on it, well, lesson learned. Don't do it again.

But did they learn?
