Citizen complaint of the day: What lies beneath?

Wrapped vehicle on Commonwealth Avenue in Brighton

A concerned citizen can't wait for Christmas to find out what's under the wrapping on Commonwealth Avenue in Brighton:

Is this legal? What is hiding underneath?

Something something e-scooters and dockless bike shares are visually polluting/blocking our public space.

Looks like a Lexus with a giant bow on top.

I could be wrong though. For all we know it could be a pterodactyl.

Talk about entitlement, leaving their hulking metal gas burning piece of private property on a public street. The nerve of some people.

License plate should be visible. Most car covers have a little window so the plates are visable. Otherwise, why would this be an issue?

will love the additional blanket cover!

Once you have found a mice nest under your hood you will never forget it.

May I suggest some moth balls in a nylon sock under the hood as a deterrent.

Good luck.

Ticket and tow it! No car owner should be hiding their license plate and inspection sticker.

With this logic, or lack of, we would be towing most cars after every snow storm.

According to the municipal code in Somerville, you need to clear the snow off your parking permit and plate after the snowstorm, or you are subject to a ticket.

They’ll probably won’t tow you, but they can ticket you.

I've seen it in Somerville (ticketing, not towing).

So in order for Somerville to write a ticket they would have to clear the snow from the plate and permit therefore removing the violation prior to the ticket being issued. Ha, the people win again.

Cars shouldn't be parked on the roads anyway after storms, they greatly impact the ability to clear snow. The status quo ain't workin Murkin.

Luckily that is the opinion of the minority of the population.

Including the local lawmakers who allow parking on some streets during a storm.

Ummm... that's not snow on that person's car nor anything else that falls from the sky caused by a weather event. So by your logic, someone
from NH should be able to cover their car with an expensive custom tarp and park it on Boston city streets in a residential spot with no questions asked.

Is this a residential spot?

Nope. Legal for you, me, and any parking refugees from other states or countries. https://goo.gl/maps/ARkh589HRLR2

...is not resident parking, but free for anyone. Who cares if there's a cover on the car? If they leave it untouched during street sweeping it'll be ticketed and towed like anyone else.

Contrast that with the Marky Mark movie filming in the Seaport. Vast areas of on-street parking spaces on D, E and Fargo streets have been turned over to the film crew -- including most of a block's worth of spaces on D by the convention center where the catering tents are "parked." Those are blocked to normal folks 24 hours a day, not just during the hours they're setting up, serving lunch and breaking down. And parking in the area was already a horrible experience.

So, yeah, forgive me for thinking one SUV under a cover isn't such a big deal.

But wait until it expands and expands and inflates and then hatches!

I see no evidence that this is NOT a Mothra egg!

Someone seriously filed a 311?

Why are people so nosy?

up

Whenever I browse through the 311 postings, a good 20 to 30 percent are people who either have an axe to grind ("This car has been [legally] parked in front of my house for 12 straight hours. Please ticket and tow.") or are just plain nosy, like this one.

My guess as to the license plate.

Shouldn't have tried to cross into Brookline Village.

putting a cover over your illegally parked car or motorcycle means you get free parking.

Neighbor put their gigantic motorcycle on the sidewalk and got a few tickets...then left it covered for months. I called once and they said it was because they "need a warrant to remove the cover" in order to get the plate, so they can ticket it.

Ridiculous. If it's on a sidewalk just remove the damn thing, the owner will come knocking soon enough, then you can charge them the impound fees.

Thanks, good to know.

Can you recommend a good brand of covers?
