Police: Mom at Hailey Apartments starts swinging at officers trying to arrest her gun-toting son

Boston Police report arresting a Weymouth woman and two 17-year-olds after a brawl Saturday night they say started when officers on patrol tried to stop one of the teens, whom they said was packing a loaded gun.

Police say officers on patrol in the housing development around 10:10 p.m. spotted a group of guys "known to them" walking down the street. The group in turn spotted the officers and one of them broke off and tried to flee:

Officers gave chase to the male, who attempted to enter the residence at 950 Parker Street, a violent struggle occurred in the entryway to the residence. While officers were struggling with the suspect, a second male arrived on scene and attempted to intervene, the male began fighting with officers, but was subsequently placed under arrest. At this time, a female suspect exited the residence and began shouting at officers, who were still attempting to place the first male suspect under arrest. Officers continued struggling with the male who was clenching an object close to his chest. Officers were eventually able to identify the object to be a loaded firearm. Upon noticing the firearm, the female suspect began to physically assault officers as they attempted to remove the firearm from the male suspect. Eventually officers were able to place both the male suspect and his mother, the female suspect, under arrest.

Shirley Thompson, 40, of Weymouth, was charged with assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and trespassing, Her son, 17, also from Weymouth and too young to be named, was charge with being delinquent for unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, assault and battery on a police officer causing injuries, resisting arrest and trespassing. The other teen, 17 and from Dorchester, was charged with being delinquent for assault and battery on a police officer causing injuries, resisting arrest and trespassing, police say.

Hard enough to think about taking guns off violent kids every day. But then to add the violent sorry-excuse-for-a-mom on too of it has to sting extra.... Much appreciated.
