Police pull floundering man from harbor off Long Wharf

Boston Police report officers from the Harbor Patrol Unit rescued a man spotted in the cold water off Long Wharf around 5:20 p.m. yesterday.

Officers found the man, in his 30s, near a mooring ball in the 50-degree water and pulled him aboard.

Officers were unable to ascertain why the victim had gone into the water.

The officers hied to Long Wharf, where they docked and handed the man over to a Boston EMS crew, who took him to a local hospital.

He was taken into custody, as flounders are out of season.

I can't fathom why someone would go swimming in this weather...

I wonder if he did it on porpoise?

I hope that poor buoy didn't freeze to death.

When I read the article, I was ready to post a smarmy SFK comment myself. I mean, other than the guy still being alive, it does sound like a lot of the other stories of people falling into the harbor that SFK devotees glom onto.

Will the Chart House or Marriot, both on Long Wharf, be called before the License Board because this man was found in the water off Long Wharf?

A post the other day mentioned customers (young male drunks) jumping into the water from Whiskey Priest. Unless this guy was pushed or fell in, I think it shows that it's tough to stop free will, however ill-advised.

and State Street Provisions to your list of suspects beyond the Chart House and the Mariott (Tia's and Waterline) as potential overservers, and probably restaurants and bars beyond that, because you can't jump from any of those places directly into the water off Long Wharf, so you're just guessing where this guy came from.

By contrast, the Whiskey Priest brah-dude idiots were going airborne directly from its roof deck into the harbor.

I know: it must be tough to keep that brilliant mall-cop mind sharp so many years into retirement.
