Another Arroyo jumps into politics: Son and brother of former city councilors to run for seat now held by McCarthy in District 5

Announcement!

Ricardo Arroyo, whose father Felix D. Arroyo, and brother, Felix G. Arroyo, both served as at-large city councilors, announced today he's running for the District 5 (Hyde Park, Mattapan, Roslindale) council seat held by Tim McCarthy since 2013. McCarthy had no opposition in the 2017 election.

We had english, spanish, haitian creole. We had young and old, female, black, white, hispanic. We certainly didn't have anyone pretty enough to be a ballgirl for the Red Sox though. Not as if Daddy's team would ever hire a girl from Hyde Park to work the sidelines anyway. But NO pictures of handicapped people or native americans telling us how they will sleep better at night knowing that Arroyo is at the helm defending their rights???? Where is the care and empathy from this haughty politician?

Of course, we had 0 policy positions from him. Zero. Cero. Zewo. Nothing about how much he will work, or show up to work. Nothing about what he will do to make the City better. I'm so impressed...I'm almost swooning. So malleable.

Most importantly he doesn't even have a plan for bringing #soulcycle into Hyde Park to make everything better.

It almost seems like BCC is a high school popularity contest.

Has anyone seen TrophyWifeLinda and Pat Pendejo in the same room together? They're sounding an awful lot alike, what with their keen interest in local issues and not-funny diatribes.

Shocking that the hardcore misogynist who also called Adrian Walker an “affirmative action hire” can’t handle a demonstration of diversity.

Not a fan of McCarthy but two Arroyos in Boston politics were enough for me.

you should look at Ricardo on his own merit. He got a law degree and passed the bar which means he's well educated and a good student, and he chose to use it as a public defender rather than in more lucrative law practice. I don;t know him well enough to decide now but I will between now and primary day.

Tim McCarthy is a decent person. One of his biggest strengths is having worked for City of Boston for a period of time but I haven't seen him make any significant contributions to the debate on other topics. If Ricardo would be an upgrade you'd be foolish not to choose him.

To be honest, I'm pissed about the condo situation in Readville. Its already hard enough living next to 138 and at the bottom of the City. I feel like the condo in Readville set up makes no sense whatsoever. Milton Street bridge will be unbearable all day long after that.

Having said my piece, Tim is at all the local events and is very approachable and a community person, however he'll prob pay for the condo situation dearly with all of Readville residents. Ricardo is a cool guy and I never have felt the same air of arrogance from him that I had from his dad. Rick is smart and likable....nothing fake there at all. I wouldn't link him to his family, from my own personal experience and opinion.

I'm not favoring anyone here which is hard, because I like them both as individuals.

No more political dynasties already. We don't need an aristocracy.

another person living off daddy's success: Ed "Flop" Flynn.

Ed: "Hey my daddy was mayor of boston, so vote for me!"

That little sob, representing the constituents through things like pushing to lower the speed limit after tragic car crashes in the district. The nerve of some people.

By any chance do you know who Nancy Pelosi’s dad was?

You can argue the efficacy of Ed's solutions but not that he's trying to address issue-- speed limit enforcement v. traffic calming.

It only took a toddler to BE KILLED before he stepped up. Awful. He needs to go along with Stephen Lynch, Michael Flaherty, Marty Walsh and the rest of the life long townie politicians. We need new blood in this city, with new ideas. They are "institutionalized" in the old, backwards way.

By any chance do you know who Nancy Pelosi’s dad was?

We are talking about politicians in Boston. Please stay on topic. I want to bring up the how FANTASTIC the Florida Dolphins vs New England Cheatriots game was but that would be silly for this topic.

And the D’Allesandro family does what it does, much like the Flynns.

But wait a second, I remember you being a huge Rothlesberger fan not too long ago. The Dolphins don’t have the raps sheet of your Steelers, do they?

I thought Segun Idowu might throw his hat in after a strong Hyde Park showing for Suffok-14.

Given that McCarthy actively campaigned for Baker, and Ward 18 went pretty sizably for Gonzalez, I'd say he's out of step with the district.

Not saying this isn't true, but can you provide an example?

McCarthy knows who butters his bread - his Readville and Fairmount Hill base voters that show up every election. Check those precincts in Ward 18. They either went to Baker outright or were tight. That's why he endorsed Baker and that's why he's tough to beat regardless of what anyone may think of his politics or performance in office.

When you are a former city councilor named Arroyo.

Both of them have had a lot of success in their fields. I'm proud to be their brother. That said, I'd hate for you to judge me on their terms. I'd want you to judge me on mine.

Redistricting practices of Boston City Council have failed to make available online a better Map clearly delineating Names of Bordering Streets between adjacent neighboring Districts for folks nearby Bordering Streets, for all folks. And for Candidates' Campaigns.

Currently available Maps online haven't Names of Bordering Streets clearly delineated.

His interpersonal style may be a bit quirky, but, in his push for more transparency in government, he's on the side of the angels.

Management of land is one of the most important aspects of city governance. But that is controlled largely by an organization that answers (when it does) to only the mayor. The BRA/BPDA. That unelected supposed government agency is is not elected. It controls what happens to land in neighborhoods. It's managers treat neighborhoods organizations (which supposedly provide closer representation to residents - yea, aha) with a kingly attitude. In other, "our people will talk to your people when we feel like it."

Democracy is faked where mayors are kings.

Mayor Walsh will be up for reelection in 3 years. That's how democracy works.

up

We don't have democracy. It's kleptocracy. Thanks to a few nitwits in power - the developers and unions control who gets elected.

It's contagious. Washington has it too now - probably always had a milder version, but the more virulent Boston strain seems to have taken hold down there in the last couple of years.

Walsh, like every mayor before him, will need 50% +1 of the voters to support him. The issue is that voters don’t see this as an issue.

Walsh is the roughly sixth mayor to enjoy the work of the BRA.

I mean, the mayor is elected by the people and he won an overwhelming victory last year when this very issue was discussed at length in the campaign. You can like or dislike him, but to say he's an unaccountable king is an exaggeration. Just sounds like sour grapes.
