Just read there’s only been 54 homicides this year? That’s low as hell BPD must be catching the most active shooters a lot. Jackson has 80 so far and is the size of Springfield. A ton of other cities around 300k are up to the 100-200 range as well. It’s either Boston gangsters are non existent or the force is just that good at keeping the numbers down to very low levels. I was shocked when I’ve seen multiple years with totals here in the 30’s. I don’t want to ever hear a Boston rapper talking street shit it’s barely active here

Boston is still more deadly per capita than places like LA Seattle Austin or NYC and is about the same as Miami at this point. Cities like Jackson in the south and Midwest have many more guns and more violence in general. For a major city the amount of crime concentrated in Mattapan Roxbury and Dorchester is actually pretty high. 16 boys between 16-19 were killed in Roxbury Dorchester Mattapan last year. For a city with very few kids it’s actually quite bad. The overall homicide rate in Boston is actually 3x that of NYC and 2.5x that of LA. Dorchester is 4x more deadly than Brooklyn. But when you compare to Jackson and Baltimore and St Louis, it looks great. The fact of the matter is those are not our peer cities- the major coastal elite are-and Boston needs to do better.

DC. Baltimore. Philly. All are coastal elite and make Boston look like Disney land. Boston’s rate is like 7.0/100k. Barely over the national average. In a few years it will be lower than the average. Go to city-data website and scroll down and browse other cities and you will be shocked how many are so much worse than Boston

And the murders that happen in other cities only happen in select areas as well. There own R/S/M areas but the difference is there getting 2-10x as many. Boston is not bad. I doubt there is another homicide this year

Not Baltimore. Homicides occur with fair regularity in every single corner of Baltimore city.

Simple and plain, one murder is too many. Im in my early 40s and a lifelong Boston resident. Ive personally known over 20 people that have been murdered in my lifetime. That isnt normal and is a reflection of cowards inability to resolve conflict without violence. White people own 100x the amount of weapons the Black folk own but you dont see them shooting each other at the rate we do. The self hate is real!

You could say that now but 20 years ago it had the reputation of being a deadly city, in the 90s 80s Boston’s homicides would surpass over 100 and for its size at the time was scary, but cities like Boston should be applied as cities with big change but the worst projects in nyc like Marcy are just as bad or better than hailey apartments in Jamaica plain were they kill in the doubles mulitple times this year, and Boston is also considered to be the most racist city in America. But Boston in some ways has came a long way.

I didn't think Boston would continue to be this wild but this is what happens when you isolate communities into cycles of poverty like BBURG did way back when. You go to BPS and there is no ladder for you to climb, just a bucket to inhabit with the other crabs. Hopefully with technology young people can find their way out of street life and living the productive happy lives they should be living.

Not to lessen the tragic deaths this year, but 30 years ago we were facing at least twice as many murders a year.

I would say that Boston could be doing better, but I’ve seen it a whole lot worse.

I grew up through that but it doesn't make what's going on today less relevant or tragic.

"The overall homicide rate in Boston is actually 3x that of NYC and 2.5x that of LA" While the Boston homicide rate is a bit higher than NYC your figures are way off. Can you cite the source of your data?

Dorchester with a pop of 115k had what 24/23 murders last year? No where in Brooklyn is close to that dangerous. At all.

This is a typical Boston attitude. Boston has 31 homicides in 1999. If there were actual concern and leader ship it would not be much higher than this considering national trends. But Boston rests on its lmacconpkishments for the wealthy.

Unfortunately I never would think I write this that was my brother regardless of the murder rate. Boston is full of cowards always have been and will always be.
