Fire spreads from one house to a second in Dorchester

Devon Street fire

The Boston Fire Department reports a two-alarm fire that started in a multi-family house at 159 Devon St., off Columbia Rd., spread to 161 Devon St.

Firefighters responded around 11:25 p.m., Friday, to the fire. One firefighter was injured; all residents were evacuated, the department reports, adding a total of 17 people were displaced.

The cause of the fire, which did an estimated $300,000 in damage, is under investigation, the department says.

Are those old asbestos shingles? Probably why so many firefighters end up with mesothelioma and other cancers. Terrible.

Asphalt shingles often contain asbestos, as well as tars that are laden with carcinogenic PAHs.

It isn't just asbestos - it is inhaling smoke containing any number of toxic crap. Big reason that they use respirators.
