Fort Point Channel gets approval of seal

Seal in Fort Point Channel

Lis the roving UHub photographer spotted this seal in Fort Point Channel in front of the Children's Museum near Seaport Boulevard today. She reports she alerted the Aquarium so they could check on him or her.

There is nothing wrong to worry about. They don't need help. Sometimes they get out of the water to warm up. Just leave them be!

Check on what? It's a harbor seal, in the harbor.

While this is perhaps yet another sign of Boston Harbor's recovery (like this summer's frolicking whale), seals remain pretty uncommon in the inner harbor.

Pretty darned cute sign of the recovery, hopefully! (I mean, the tumor-less flounder are good, but...)

Perhaps she was going to do a TED talk at the Children's Museum?

As someone who spent quite a bit of time in the Fort Point Channel area from 1995-2000 (and The Channel, RIP), this is not an uncommon sight. Seals, harbor porpoise, huge schools of stripers (drop an underwater light, and they come a'swimmin') eels, all sorts of birds and other critters.

Just because you don't see them doesn't mean they're not there.

And seals do haul out to take a nap. It doesn't mean there is anything wrong with them. They just want to sleep, they don't need our "help."

Seal is still there, in the same spot. That doesn’t seem right.

"We gotta call the aquarium or something, dude."

[can't believe we're three comments in and no one has made this reference yet, kid.]

has any shred of intuition at all, and he/she likely does as the canine of the sea, then approval of how we've managed the harbor is not the feeling. more like amazed contempt

Love 'em!

I think the Aquarium should be notified - this is an organizer! Gonna lead an insurrection/jail break with the fellows in the tank out front!
