Salad days: Fans of local salad outlets report longer lines as others join them with their resolutions to eat healthier

In response to a report out of New York about snarly, out-of-control leaf munchers at that benighted city's salad places, Bostonian salad eaters report that, yes, the lines are longer here as well, but we're better mannered and so are not running amok or cursing out co-workers who made us join them.

Meg McClaff reports:

t took me 12 mins at 1:15 pm yesterday at Sweetgreen in the Pru. A coworker preordered his at noon, for pick up at 1, and he finally got it at 1:30.

Melissa Birch responded:

The financial district sweetgreen was 100% filled with people at 1:30ish yesterday

Cara confirmed:

The sweetgreen on franklin was mobbed yesterday at lunch too. Looked as bad for pickup as for ordering there!

Kaz added:

The line at Pita Thyme in the Financial District was about 50% longer later into the lunch hour than usual.

Baxter Vegas sighs about the state of salads at the Boylston Sweet Sweetgreen:

Some of the workers don’t even care to mix your salad fully either. Sad!

Once people give up on their New Year's resolutions, the lines will get shorter.

This is why I won't even bother with a gym until Mid-February. Its currently over run with people who have no idea what they are doing, using the machines incorrectly, or it just being overly busy in general. Too many people.

Happens every year tho.. by March its back to normal.

America: where gyms are busy for one month per year. I wonder why we are the fattest on earth? Doesn't help that the current president is a lard boy who is so dumb that he thinks exercising is bad for you.

That's what my son called them. They are also going to the gym in droves.

I HAVE ZERO SYMPATHY FOR DOWNTOWN SNOW FLAKES WHO WAIT FOR SALADS. BRING YOUR OWN TOO WORK AND EAT IT IN SHITTER LIKE THE REST OF US. Makes me mad

Go to Roche Bros. They have their salad mixes on sale, plus kale and tomatoes. I bought a pack of 50/50 spinach and lettuce mix - enough for 3-4 salads - and some other veg to add in. Gorgeous Maine hothouse grown cocktail tomatoes, and a jar of salad dressing. A can of chickpeas or what have you ... good to go! I throw sliced chicken into it, sometimes some almonds. All together, it cost about as much as a SweetColi salad, but will make about 4 lunches with the other stuff tossed in.

PLus the price.. its like. Um it's S A L A D. Why is it 12 bucks for a S A L A D?

Do what Swirls says about Roche.. so much cheaper (and I think roche is expe$ive)

Trader Joe's also has salad stuff - and fixings like sesame seeds, cranberries, almonds, avocados, etc. a lot cheaper than Roche.

Possible to buy those things any time and haul them in whenever, though.

But if I have a reason to be in Waltham or Watertown - Roche Roche baby!

Roche actually has a downtown location - in the old Filene's basement! Not cheap, but really convenient and totally filled in a food desert. I worked in the area for much of a decade before it opened and it really is a game changer.

I HAVE ZERO SYMPATHY FOR...

And I have no sympathy for loudmouths who think that shouting online makes their (usually garbled) thoughts have more impact.

Get crowded about this time of year. Gets easier in February for the regulars.

You don't win friends with salad!

the same savages who would trample you in a stampede to catch their subway or commuter rail train at the end of the day?

Nope, two different groups of people.

I prefer a good, warm, homemade, easily microwaveable at work veggie soup this time of year.
