What a difference a few weeks makes

bostonglobe.com on Dec. 17 and today

Rajeeve Martyn compares bostonglobe.com home pages from Dec. 17 and today.

Of course, Globe Senior Hater Dan Shaughnessy led the doom train in December:

But it doesn’t feel like another Patriots playoff surge is coming, does it? There comes a time when mystique and aura are nothing more than smoke and mirrors. There comes a time when being smarter is not enough, when waiting for the other guy to step on his own appendage will not guarantee victory. There comes a time when your own ability and execution are more important than all the good things that have happened before. There comes a time when you will not get the benefit of some strange rule that will be changed during the offseason. There come a time when assuming the other guy will lose his mind and hand you the game is more hope than reality.

Today, Shank is fully aboard the Patriots bandwagon. He quotes Bill Belichick with not the least bit of self-awareness:

"It's sweet," said Belichick. "Everyone counted us out. We’re still here."

I'm not a football fan but I appreciate your pointing out these ironies in such a neat and tidy fashion and I hope the Globe helps themselves to your scoop, as they often do. But I'm not holding my breath that we'll see a headline about how wrong all of their columnists were.

Along a similar subject, did the Globe fall asleep last night/this morning printing today's paper?

I ask as a Sunday-only subscriber.

I woke at 530/600 to run down the street and grab a copy with the superbowl headlines (to add to the collection) and not once corner store had gotten their papers yet.

They didn't get them till around 830-900ish. The clerk said its been happing as of late.

My Globe was sitting on the front porch at 7ish this morning, and when I got to Forest Hills after 8, they had a big stack of Globes and Heralds at the store there.

Of course, I haven't read my Globe yet, so the quality of reporting might be affected by the late (because for some reason 10 PM is now late) end of the game.

My favorite bit of Shaughnessy nonsense was when he said about the World Series that "Game 2 is a must-win"

It's a woman's choice to change her mind (#metoo!) and since the Globe is run by a woman if she tells Shank to change his mind, he steps up and fetches it like a good poodle.

It really amuses me and daddy to know end that allegedly intelligent people still read Shaughnessy and buy the Globe and put money in the pockets of the old man so he can buy more trinkets. The trickle down economy that the Globe endorses is working great for us!

It's amazing how upset people get when they read things that they know they won't like, and even less understand.

“Know end?” I think allegedly intelligent people might spell it “no end.”

Your shtick was tired and stale on the first post.

The Globe has become sheer folly, not to be taken seriously. Whether it's the fake news of lying columnists, ad nauseam predictions that Donald Trump couldn't win the presidency (but if he did, would launch nuclear war, crash the stock market etc.) or the very recent predictions of a failed Patriots 2018-19 season. In the twilight of its existence, the Globe has become MAD magazine, also in decline but at least MAD intends to be satire. You don't need to like Trump or the Patriots to see that much of the coverage is worthless.

As for worthless, it is great that "we" won but the two weeks of incessant local TV coverage was beyond excessive. On several occasions, the first half hour of the local newscasts were spent entirely on anything remotely to do with the team or the host city, from a giraffe picking the winning team to Boston reporters visiting some aquarium to a house with the Patriots logo on the roof. Dozens of Boston reporters tripping over each other in Atlanta while real local news is largely ignored. The game was anticlimactic after that. No wonder ratings were horrible. Leave sports to the three minute sportscast.

Cant believe im agreeing in part with fish here but
trying to get news from the local news channel has been, and will be, a challenge.

The amount of resources these local newscasts spent for the game is sad considering all the actual important and messed-up shit that is going on in the area.

I agree that the excessive coverage taking up the entire half hour of local TV news broadcasts was beyond the pale. I wish there was a standard these trashy local news broadcasts could be held to, but I guess not.

Whether it's the fake news of lying columnists,

Here on this planet, columnists write opinion pieces, not news articles.

Right from pre-season I didn't think the team was going to be anywhere as good as they have been (I figured they'd eek out a 9-7 division title just because the rest of the AFC (L)East would be their usual pathetic selves).

And how they won was just as astounding - if you had told me only that they scored 13 points I'd figured they'd been routed. Kudos to the defense for stepping up.

Is the favorite team of White nationalists like the Daily Beast did.... I don't get the Globe so maybe they did.

Go back a few years when Tim Thomas didn't go to the white house in protest.
They belittled him for not showing respect.
Now they praise anybody who does.
I'll read a free paper but never buying a globe

there's footage of "Shank" on the field before game 4 berating a Red Sox player: "Aren't you embarrassed? Shouldn't you be embarrassed?"

kind of boston sports commentary/radio in a nutshell there. listening to them drone on about how we're "screwed" to now is quite hilarious.
