South End market shut due to some grossness

UPDATE: Market cleared to re-open on March 27 after passing a re-inspection.

A Boston health inspector today shut Ming's Supermarket, also known as New York Marts, 1102 Washington St. for a variety of health violations that included dead bugs on a hot-foods light shield and rodent droppings under a sink employees are supposed to use for hand washing.

The sink was not actually accessible to employees, however, because tables were stored in front of it - which led to another violation because workers are supposed to have ready access to a sink for hand washing.

The market can re-open once all the bugs and droppings and soiled knives and cutting boards are cleaned, and the market can show it it has hired a "full time certified food manager and allergen trained manager," come up with "a cleaning schedule for hot foods area" and show that workers have been retrained in "proper handwashing and warewashing practices."

So, let me get this right. In 13 days it went from an A rating to being forced to close due to unsanitary conditions and poor management.

Either an A rating is the low end of the scale, a family of rats moved in and food prep quality degraded exponentially between inspections, or the food rating system is complete BS.

Are you suggesting that Ming's is now owned by an orange man with a loose relationship with the truth?

Sounds like they need to have their work reviewed and maybe time for some follow-ups on the other places they inspected that day/week...
