Some St. Patrick's Day parkour?

Guy off a roof in South Boston

Kelley O'Shea snapped a photo of what she saw in South Boston this afternoon after her nieces and nephew alerted her to "some moron" hanging off a fifth-floor deck.

All the houses in my neighborhood were circa 1900 construction. The head casing on doors and windows could take way more than a fat guy. Gumwood or hard pine and sometimes oak, properly mitered with plenty of nails. Pride in every single one.

That looks like very modern construction... maybe 5 aluminum "nails" and a few corner staples affixing the composite trim to the shittiest pine imaginable.

That fat dude is charmed.

Can't believe you're calling out all your Trump loving NH based construction contractors and fellow travelers. I asked my kids and they all said it was true.

I just wanted to read if anyone knew who the d-bag was who was hanging, and of course, someone has to bring some political reference into the mix.

It's a f**king GUY HANGING OVER A BUILDING. Why you managed to attempt inflating the topic of the construction quality toward having a political reference included, whether humorous or not, legit or not, is God-damn maddening.

Yes, as the current cliche goes, I'm f'n triggered...triggered that every other person in the country fancies themselves as a damn political analyst. You're not...this isn't cable news, and if life is politics, then nobody is actually frickin' living it.

Now, WHO WAS THE GUY?

What the hell does Trump have to do with this? You people can’t get over it. Hillary lost. A fat guy on a roof or different types of construction has nothing to do with Trump. It’s amazing how you can find a way to fit him into every conversation. Obsessed.

As if you and your ilk could actually shut up for five minutes about Obama when he was in office. I think you and your friends who put that moron in office need to be more concerned about the fact that he's becoming more and more unhinged every day. Seriously...you need to figure that one out. You broke it, you bought it.

Maybe about to film a commercial?

Probably a homeowners insurance company. Just a bunch of pictures of how to get your premiums raised.

The next Farmers' Insurance Hall of Claims commercial:

"Fell off a roof watching a parade, onto the mound of packed snow in the curb cut below, rolling off that to get hit by a bicyclist, shattering a vintage American Standard toilet/parking space saver as your broken body lands in a heap, and assaulted by an irate Townie because your ambulance is blocking the parking spot they "dug out" the last time it snowed 12 days before?"

"Seen it. Covered it."

I'm at a loss to offer an explanation for this sort of behavior, outside the use of alcohol. Having said this, would this guy (or the countless others who come to our neighborhood for this day) act like this wherever he comes from? We came home to find a woman sitting on our stairs who called the police for some unknown reason. Just prior to the arrival of the police and EMS there was a 'showdown' with much posturing in the middle of the street.
The parade is not to blame here. Rather it's the people who come here with no real plan, no destination or nothing other their intention to get drunk and stumble around aimlessly.
There's always been drinking that accompanies this day. But what we have presently is way beyond anything that has been occurring in the recent years past.
I think it's unfortunate, but this is what a changing (or rather changed) neighborhood brings.

Maybe no, probably yes. Assuming he doesn't actually live there, he probably also leaves hotel rooms trashed. Not his problem, amiright?

A lot of cops will tell you that this is quickly becoming our least favorite day of the year to work.

The cops that were working yesterday looked like they were dancing trying "not to see" all the morons drinking their bud lights can. Whichever way they turned some one was drinking plan as day.

If you want to make it an "easier day" next year they should have busted a few more people for drinking in public!

No. It's not the drinking in public that's the problem. It's the dumb people who do dumb shit like this. Out of everyone who was drinking in public or secretly, how many people did stupid stuff? If you busted EVERYONE for public drinking, how many people would get drunk secretly and still do stupid stuff?

You've hit the nail on the head with this. Not only the St. Patrick's Day parade but other events such as the July 4 esplanade concert and First Night have strayed far, far from their original intent and are now vastly large events geared to suburbanites and tourists who blow into Boston and treat it in a most disrespectful manner that they would never do in their leafy home towns. Working near North Station I recently witnessed this disgusting behavior during the Patriots Parade.

with large events that are actively trying to include/be open to as many people as possible. It is impossible for Boston to host large-scale events and not have 'suburbanites behaving badly'

it sounds like you want your major metropolis to always be quiet and peaceful - why don't you move to a leafy town yourself?

these events are part of the character of Boston and a natural side effect of large-scale, public parties/events is going to be some drunkenness and idiocy. If you can't handle large groups of people celebrating things, don't live in a goddamn city.

NIMBY like you read about...

... that's because it has gotten much smaller, not larger. It used to be spread out among many indoor venues throughout the Back Bay and downtown, as well as having an extensive daytime and evening program at the Hynes Convention Center.

What about the half million or more suburbanites and tourists who congregate in Copley Square on new Year's Eve under the auspices of "First Night"? How is that smaller? You didn't see that in 1976 when First Night started. What do they even do there aside from listening to a couple of mediocre, unknown bands and djs and standing around like penguins?

"half a million or more"?

I suspect the Copley Square crowd count is much closer to 100000 - and maybe even lower.

It's a contractor taking advantage of a building still being worked on/not occupied to watch, or else the building owner. Not merely a resident or their guest.

General resident wouldn't have access to roof with no safety railing. Well.... shouldn't have access...

That I absolutely shouldn't have had access to. Still, I was never this dumb.

I have to assume this guy knew what he was doing and there was very little risk. He is leaning most of his weight over the lip of the building where he probably doesn't even need footholds to hold himself up, although he still has them. This guy probably had a few beers and yet he was probably very comfortable. Most people are incredulous about this, but then again, most people couldn't perform a single pull up (not that this guy even needs to).

If a man can free solo El Capitan, this guy can easily hang 30% of his bodyweight over the side of a roof.

up

But why? Why would anyone dangle over the side of a building?
Also, did you just really compare soloing El Cap to a fat beer dude hanging from a building?

up

Internet Aspergers -No comparisons. None. Unless the things being compared are exactly the same. The only thing you forgot in your post was "Really? Really???".

Men throughout history have performed all sorts of crazy things in the quest to be great, from George Mallory (on summiting Mt Everest - "because it's there") or a drunk dude hanging off a building. The indomitable spirit lives on.

Meanwhile women bore children in horrifying conditions.

Men are disposable. You can wipe out most of the men in a village and the few remaining can easily repopulate. Maybe that explains why men do stuff like this while women don't.

Assuming I found the correct building, the picture is a little misleading because that roof is just above another roof only one story down.
