Man nicknamed 'Dangerous' gets 5 to 7 after admitting he stabbed disabled, transgender woman in Egleston Square

David Delacruz, 31, pleaded guilty last week to assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a disabled person, assault and battery for the purposes of intimidation, and violation of a victim’s civil rights for an incident in 2017 in which he knocked a woman out of her wheelchair, then stabbed her repeatedly, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Suffolk Superior Court Judge Robert Tochka sentenced Delacruz to 5 to 7 years in prison, followed by two years of probation, during which he has to wear a GPS device, in part to prove he is going nowhere near Columbus Avenue and Washington Street.

It's at least the second time Delacruz attacked somebody in Egleston Square; he received a one-year sentence for a 2009 stomping.

According to the DA's office, Delacruz and his victim were among a group hanging out outside the Egleston House of Pizza at Columbus and Washington around 6:15 p.m. on June 13, 2017:

The defendant directed a homophobic slur at the victim, leading to a verbal exchange. In an attack captured in its entirety on a public safety camera, he charged at the victim, knocking her from her wheelchair and stabbing her multiple times in the arms and abdomen. The attack ended only when a witness pulled the defendant from the victim.

The victim was transported to Boston Medical Center, where she required three blood transfusions and remained hospitalized for seven days. During an interview with Boston Police, the victim was able to identify the defendant by name and by his nickname, "Dangerous." She later positively identified him in a photo array.

This guy will be a costly burden to Massachusetts for as long as he's in the state. Either MA pays the $50k/year to keep him locked up or he causes violence in public. Medicaid is probably covering the woman's hospital bill and rightly so.

Even if he decides to change his ways, who would want to take a risk and hire him? (Besides Uber.)

The guy should be nicknamed "cowardly." Maybe he should try picking on an able-bodies man his own size.
