Have they considered using some kind of flame to burn off the oil? Oil does burn.

Oil eating microbes that they use whenever a tanker spills?

The heat will cause that granite to spall, chips will fly off. Best to get real pros to restore it, the pressure washing is bad b/c the water the infiltrates at high pressure will freeze overnight and pop stone off the surface. The wrong chemicals can also damage the surface. This is a job for restoration specialists, surely there's one out there who could donate some time to see this is done right.

Or the city could pay such a person for their time.

I will donate the 1st $200 to anybody who gives info that leads to arrest of this POS.
I have no idea on how 1 of these rewards start but I'm all in on this.
If any readers can start something lets do it.

would be helpful. These vandalism incidents seem more and more common.

it's not surprising that some folks no longer respect our World War II veterans.

Are you really trying to blame this on the President?

I mean, the guy does enough that is worth dumping on him about. I think he should be able to get a pass on desecrating war memorials.

He just went on TV and pretty much shit all over John McCain again, who is a dead war hero. This was after Megan McCain ripped him a new asshole yesterday about the same comment on Twitter.

He also has cut VA funding

He does not care about vets, his comments make it so.

It has been very obvious that things he says people take literally. The connection is very real.

He means it. He means all of it. The one area in which he cannot be "misunderestimated", to borrow a Bush malaprop, is in the genuineness of his speech. He might be lying through his teeth, but he still means it.

That's the shit to get annoyed at him for. He's fairly pro-statues. He hasn't been going around telling people that statues are bad. Blaming him on this just shows an unhealthy obsession with the guy.

...if they're statues of him.

Also parades in his honor with lots of tanks and stuff.

Seriously, I know bothsidesism is a religion for you, Waquoit, but this guy is a narcissist and an idjit.

Tying this to Trump is idiotic.

Give the guy enough time and he’ll do something worthy of griping about. Why start inventing things?

I don't get it.

its not as common any more because, as we all know, there are less world war two vets everyday. im also pretty sure there aren't many still driving automobiles. anyway, in my younger years , when driving, id occasionally come up behind someone that was going a little to slow, or being overly cautious, and id start honking the horn and getting frustrated. then i would see it. the USS ARIZONA cap or whatever cap it may have been letting me know this little old guy used to be a BAD ASS AMERICAN HERO. i would think to myself "wow, that the guy could have probably kicked my ass up and down the street 20 years ago" then id think of what he may have done for our country then id calm the hell down and let him drive however the hell he wanted.

can you imagine what all those southie boys, whose names are etched into that stone, would think of some worthless douche that would try to tarnish their heroic service to this country? its disgusting.

I met a Southie WWII vet during a veterans outreach event in the summer.

He had a painting hanging on his wall of a veteran saluting a WWII memorial in Boston (I think it was this Castle Island memorial?).

Apparently, the veteran's son saw the painting in the window of a store on Tremont Street. The subject of the painting was the Southie vet.

I wonder if people who vandalize veterans memorials understand that it's possible to both oppose the military industrial complex AND SIMULTANEOUSLY respect veterans (or at the very least, memorials and grave sites).

Shout-out to the volunteers who helped clean up this memorial!

I doubt that people who vandalize veterans' memorials are doing so out of opposition to the military industrial complex. Look at people like the Syracuse Peace Council or AFSC, they would see no point in this.

Nail polish remover might work.

Dozens of State Troopers were hired on overtime for the parade. Since they only patrol Castle island and Day Boulevard how did they manage to miss the attack by the vandals?

but later that night, or the next morning? It's also a few blocks off the parade route.
