Citizen complaint of the day: Sick of the MFA artsy-fartsies taking up all the parking spaces

A disgusted citizen goes into ALL CAPS mode to file a 311 report about all the MFA visitors parking on the streets near the museum:

WE BARELY HAVE RESIDENT PARKING BECAUSE ALL THE ART MUSEUM FOLKS STEAL OUR PARKING AND NEVER GET TICKETS. THIS HAS BEEN AN ON GOING ISSUE FOR YEARS HERE. BUT LET ME PARK MY RENTAL AND I BEEN A RESIDENT 12 YEARS AND BOOM A TICKET

provided FOR THAT PURPOSE considered misuse of that property? If anything, the people insisting they be granted exclusive right to park through the entitlement program called 'resident permit' are the ones misusing the spaces.

They let commercial vehicles get away with stuff they would never let residents get away with.

- expired permits
- illegal parking

It's okay though! The cops are buddy buddy with the lib unions guys that work for these companies and the owners of the companies line the pockets of the lib scoundrels that run this city.

How about tradespeople refuse to do anything in your neighborhood?

Its kinda like you call someone out for their idiocy, point out where the idiocy is but sarcastically encourage them to keep spewing said idiocy.

You have to have your car registered in the neighborhood that the sticker is for. This means you pay the registration fee, the excise tax, and the additional insurance compared to leaving your registration in your previous (cheaper) town/state. My insurance doubled when I did that. I literally paid hundreds of dollars for the chance to be able to park in my neighborhood - actual spot availability not guaranteed but at least I’m eligible to park there by LAW. In return, the city should enforce ALL parking laws, including resident only parking, to discourage visitors parking for free with no repercussions simply because there’s something of interest nearby. Happens in every neighborhood in the city. They could park in a lot or garage but if breaking the law is cheaper, why bother?

Registration fees are statewide, so someone in Williamsburg pays the same as someone on Beacon Hill.

Excise tax is not related to resident stickers. I pay Boston excise but cannot park in the Fenway. I could get a resident parking sticker, but it’s use is limited to a small part of Roslindale. The tax is Boston is the same citywide, so a car owner pays the same for their 2001 Corolla in Mattapan as they would in the Back Bay.

Insurance is a state requirement. Rates are calculated based on where the car is kept. It is also a private transaction.

In short, resident parking stickers are free. The City of Boston charges $0 for them. That is the definition of free.

You don't pay close to market rate to park, we waste valuable public property to store cars. Your insurance costs are meaningless to the cost of parking.

Why should free visitor parking be discouraged while residents get a free lunch?

Also, as has been pointed out before, motorists don't pay the true cost of driving and we have a $6.4 billion shortfall in road funding over the next 10 years. But go ahead and tell me that you pay enough.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

By LAW you have to register your car where you live, not at a fake address where you don't live. Quit pretending you're going out of your way by following the LAW.

oh man its almost like subsidizing parking for generations has given the driving public a rather overlarge sense of entitlement to private vehicle storage on public land.

Can't believe the parking enforcement folks could clearly tell that a car was a rental parked by a long time resident and STILL gave them a ticket.

the city doesn't ticket the people illegally parked in the resident only spots so as not to discourage tourism but the people who have registered their cars in the neighborhood and pay the insurance that comes with it (double what I'd been paying in New York State) get tickets at the drop of a hat. People will blah blah blah about the expectation of free parking but if a car is illegally parked, it should be ticketed. period.

You think you deserve special privileges for not lying on your car registration?

Are higher than they are in the north end and every other neighborhood for that matter, so, by your logic, our resident stickers should work everywhere in the city?

I assume The Fenway has them MFA patrons shouldn't be parking on surrounding neighborhood streeys without them unless they're using meter parking.

I understand many if not most visitors to Boston, or ecpecially college students, don't come from urban places with high population densities; but parking is a big problem here because it's a very densely populated, very urban area.

Clearly being a resident for 12 years means you have earned exclusive property rights to the public street. All those outsiders who have only been here 7 or 8 years deserve nothing, and should have to walk or take the T to make it easier for 12-year residents to park.

Put a quarter in the meter and VOILA, no ticket.

Are they really griping that BTD enforced the resident parking laws?

A visitor parked in a resident only zone is breaking the law. Should be ticketed but aren’t for tourism. Meanwhile, residents who meet the letter of the law to qualify for a sticker trying to park where there are more cars than spots are ticketed if their cars don’t meet the laws exactly (too close to curb, part of car past no parking sign, etc). This means the non ticketing of the non residents is deliberate and not just something they missed.

How about learning some grammar?

“I park my rental and boom ticket” well, no kidding, a car you parked you don’t normally have and has no sticker gets a ticket. Seems to me a car that was illegally parked got ticketed as you say should have happened.

Go buy a house in the burbs with a garage if it's so hard for you to share the street with the public.
