Forest Hills could finally be getting a Bluebikes station

Jamaica Plain News reports the city and the T seem to be close to figuring out the permitting issues that were holding back installation of one of the bike-rental racks at the Forest Hills T station and the one could be in operation by early summer. The lack of a rental place there has meant a big gap in the bike network between Bluebike racks in the rest of JP and in Roslindale.

And they work in partnership with the City of Boston (and Cambridge, Somerville, and the Town of Brookline.)

It's taken them since "last summer" to work on permitting? There's nothing that the city could have done to speed up this process? It sounds absurd and seems to be representative of how they don't really want to add alternatives to driving a car.

Where was this when they came out around 2014-15? When I was living there and decrying the lack of transportation options in lower income neighborhoods WITHIN the city I wanted these so bad. It would have made Roslindale more accessible. At last the gentry moves in and the gentry gets what the gentry wants. Fortunately I'm in Roxbury now and centrally located to most everything in the city but I wish this came about a few years ago. I bike and I drive and I walk so I feel like I can speak for most modes of transport here.

Are you claiming that Roslindale became gentrified between 2014 and 2019?

Wait a second on waiting a second- are you claiming that Roslindale was a "lower income neighborhood" in 2014?

Methinks that one has never lived in Roslindale.

Now people who arrive at or leave from FH by bus or train, can hop on a Bluebike to finish their trip. It's a straight shot down the bike path to the Back Bay from there.

Another sign that a station is imminent: it’s on the BlueBikes map, in “coming soon” grey for now.

A while ago when the expansion into Roslindale/Mattapan/Dorchester-south-of-Savin-Hill was coming up they put a lot of grey dots on the map, and I distinctly remember that Forest Hills was on the map, as well as Ashmont and Shawmut which I think has also been stuck in this limbo as well.

Now that Lyft owns motivate, the company that runs bluebikes, it has gotten less convenient (this news notwithstanding). Like when the car companys bought train systems across the country and ran them into the ground in the 50s, Lyft doesnt want people using bikes with a small annual fee. They want people to pay to be chauffered around in cars using the lyft service or, at least, using their motorized scooters. Like the car companies in the 50s, lyft and uber will make public bike systems less and less convenient while encouraging more fossil fuel based transportation like motorscooters and ride'share'.
