I am so happy about this. (I tried to like your headline Adam but couldn't figure out how - is that not an option or am I just too old?)

I look forward to shopping again. Good work, strikers. Shaws annoys me and I feel like I have to dress up to shop at Wegmans.

And my boy finally conquered the slide at Fallon today

I had to say it was a good day

In the city, if I walked around my neighborhood not wearing at least a collared shirt and khakis, I'd've looked like a bum. I dress like that where I live now, I look like I'm trying to sell you something. Same deal at the grocery stores. Unless it's just past 5pm on a weekday, 'upscale' is not far above yardwork clothes. Insert joke about yoga pants?

A place where you should cosplay to shop.

My youngest daughter and I whittled it down to that if I ever go furry, I am gonna be a gay Husky dog and I am gonna PRANCE like no one is watching.

If Market Basket is cool with that, then who knows... I may bond with the place. I just really hate their 35 dollar cash back limit. Stoppies goes to 200.

I was wondering how the Sunday overtime issue was going to be resolved, and am glad that the employees were able to keep it.

It's a tough issue. The employees become accustomed to getting extra bucks in their pocket and depend on it.

OTOH, Sunday is't what it used to be and is now no different than any other day. As we have become use to 24/7 shopping (booze on Sunday!!! It only took forever....), there is less of an argument for overtime on Sunday.

Anyways, I'm happy for the employees. I haven't seen much detail, but it sounds like they got a lot of what they were bargaining for.

It's not "no different than any other day" if you've got kids and that's one of the two days a week you get to spend with them. The undermining of weekends and holidays by retail doesn't make it "no different than any other day" for those who work them.

Like I said, it's not an easy issue.

Not everybody has kids.
Not everybody goes to church on Sunday.
Not everybody works Mon-Fri.
Not everybody (fill in the blank)

Using your logic, people should get overtime for working Sat, too, because, well, kids.

Honestly, I don't care. But, when I saw it was an issue in the S&S negotiations, I started thinking about it. You have to admit that weekends, and especially Sundays, are a lot different than they were 50 years ago (if you were around then). I think the natural progression of things will eliminate overtime on Sundays. If the commenter below is right about state law, that would have to change first.

Again, just an interesting discussion point.

I'm pretty sure that the Sunday overtime rule is still the law in Mass. That's why you'll see most of the senior cashiers in the store 1st thing on Sunday.

https://www.mass.gov/service-details/massachusetts-blue-laws

Retailers that employ more than 7 people, including the owner, are required to compensate employees who work on Sundays, except for bona fide executive, administrative, and professional employees, at a rate of pay not less than 1 and a half times their regular rate.

From the Globe:

If members of the five union locals approve — voting starts later this week — new part-time workers would get lower pension contributions and would not be guaranteed time-and-a-half pay on Sundays and holidays during their first three years, as other workers are, according to the union.

They are not going to win but at least they will go down fighting. Kudos to Deb Goldberg, Ed Markey, and Uncle Joe Biden for supporting the workers yesterday when every other pol was trying to get their 5 minutes of fame in the collusion delusion sage.

Why?

Why do you say they are not going to win?

Because the owners

Have the two most important items in a labor struggle Time and Money. Time and Money are two items the workers most of whom are part time can't afford. I applaud their courage for standing up to the schoolyard bully but the bully will win in the end.
