Dylan Etheridge, 22, is scheduled for arraignment tomorrow on a number of charges, including motor-vehicle homicide, for a crash on Bennington Street early this morning that killed one of his passengers and injured a second, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Etheridge's car came to rest on its roof around near the Orient Heights T stop after hitting several cars around 1:15 a.m. Boston Police report Etheridge fled the scene after the crash.

He will be arraigned in East Boston Municipal Court, the DA's office says.

Innocent, etc.

(This comment is totally going to start a flame war, sorry Adam, or maybe congrats on the clicks?)

But … seems like there's a double-standard. If he'd just hit a pedestrian or bicyclist, it would have been a terrible accident which never could have been prevented.

If the day ever comes when there isn't someone to take a tragedy and straight away use it as a hammer to pound some well worn nail on this site I don't know what I'll do. I get it, everyone (bikes/cars/peds/T-users) feels outrage at the treatment their preferred mode gets and that's a great topic for another time. Right now, somebody is dead, at least 2 others lives are ruined, and 3 families and countless friends are devastated. Let's focus on that and put the policy debate off for a while. We have all lost something in this and every crash. Sincere condolences to this young man's family.

Because you know it is true.

Those cars parked on the side of the road should have been wearing helmets, too.

We won't put off the policy debate.

This wasn't a tree falling on a car tragedy - this was a preventable act of deliberate recklessness on the part of a DRIVER.

That doesn't happen mysteriously - it happens because our culture tells drivers that dangerous behavior is normal.

Screw that.

You want to put your head in the sand and offer useless thoughts and prayers? Knock yourself out. Others want to actually solve problems and save lives. American drivers kill 35,000 people in crashes every year. So when is it ok for us to talk about it? If we wait a week after every death to address these killings then we will never get anywhere because not an hour goes by in this country without a driver killing someone. Your apathy about these 35,000 deaths is disgusting. This same sentiment goes for republicans and gun deaths.

To Ari O: Mocking the death of another human being to make a snarky remark... you're a disgrace. I sincerely hope that loved ones of the victim are not reading this. 'Congrats on the clicks.' Wow, how clever.

Those families don't need the likes of us piling on, they have a lifetime of pain awaiting. Since I'm not a "thoughts and prayers" kind of person (but I recognize others are), I intend to use this as a teachable moment for my kids, this has nothing to do with bikes and peds policy and everything to do with helping kids develop a more mature sense of judgement (drinking/drugs, excessive speed, GTA behaviors, etc), if we want less carnage on the road, let's start there. So go ahead and rage on if you want, but try an do something productive as well.

The families that didn't take keys away. The families that glorified road rage driving. The families that normalized irresponsible behavior.

You care only about yourself and your "right" to not be bothered with law enforcement directed toward your special need to speed and endanger and kill your fellow residents.

Full stop - oh, wait - you don't know what one is.

This was a preventable death, brought to you by the standard sort of enabling of bad drivers that goes on every day.
