After 18 years in Roslindale, writer and corporate executive Kristie Helms is going back to her native Tennessee to be closer to her family and for a new job. But she won't forget Boston and lists all the ways she loves the city.
Beautiful and touching. Best wishes with the move. You did a lot of good for Roslindale and Boston.
not to be priced out. leave on your own terms. so rare and most of us won't get to do it that way. go girl!
One of my favorite quotes where she nails it:
"The neighborhoods of Boston are awesome. Especially Roslindale. I have been to so many shitty community meetings. Where there’s always that guy with "more of a comment than a question". And that woman who says the same things every time. BUT PEOPLE ALWAYS SHOW UP."
I sometimes I think that Boston isn’t actually the best place to live on earth taking into account all objective measure of superiority, and then I read something like this and it reminds me of how wrong it is to think such things. Good luck to you in all future endeavors.
Gotta love that shout out to Roxbury Puddingstone!
Good times and good luck in Tennessee Kristie.
