Boston cop indicted on charge he lied to officers investigating how his wife got shot at their Hyde Park home

A Suffolk County grand jury last week indicted Korey Franklin, who had been a cop for seven years, on a felony charge of misleading fellow officers about how his wife wound up in the hospital with a gunshot wound to her groin on Christmas Eve, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

The indictment alleges that the defendant made false statements to a 911 dispatcher and to responding Boston Police officers about how the shooting occurred, with the intent to mislead and impede the ensuing investigation. The woman was shot once in the groin and seriously injured.

At the time of the incident, Franklin had told 911 and detectives his wife shot herself accidentally while putting a gun into a safe at their home on Garfield Avenue in Hyde Park. In fact, the DA's office reported at the time, Franklin was sitting in their living room "manipulating the gun," when it went off twice, hitting her in the groin.

Franklin was originally charged both with lying to police and reckless assault and battery. The indictment on a single charge supersedes the initial criminal complaint. According to the DA's office,

Based on a lengthy grand jury investigation and review of forensic findings, the evidence at present supported the single indictment, a felony under the Massachusetts witness intimidation statute

Franklin will be arraigned on the new charge on May 30, according to the DA's office, which adds he has been on paid leave since the shooting.

Innocent, etc.

Pulled the trigger twice while muzzling his wife and there isn't a murder charge? W-T-F?

Perhaps it has something to do with her still being alive, to start.

Beyond that, you would have to prove intent. One would imagine that if she claimed he shot at her intentionall, an attempted murder charge would be laid.
